The Scorekeeper is responsible for tracking and recording points, scores, infractions, and any other relevant data in a game, match, or competition to ensure transparency, accuracy, and integrity of the scoring process.
Must be at least 14 years of age to apply for this position.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE: Thorough knowledge of specific sports program rules and interpretations; knowledge of City and department policies.
SKILL: Demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job. Quick data management, especially in fast-paced environments. Attention to detail to ensure accuracy. Basic technical skills to operate scorekeeping equipment.
ABILITY: Communicate effectively with referees, coaches, gym supervisors, participants and the public; follow written and verbal instructions; remain current on rules of specific sports; analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine proper course of action to be taken; work with little or no supervision, as necessary; analyze and assess facility, equipment and weather safety hazards; learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures; establish and maintain effective relationships with the public.
TRAINING: None required. Additional specialty/certifications preferred if available.
EXPERIENCE: Some prior working experience; experience with playing, officiating, or instructing sports programs, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence of required knowledge, skills and abilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:
- Accurately note each team's or player's progress during the event.
- Ensure real-time updates of scores.
- Operate the scoreboard or electronic display system to reflect the current score.
- Reset and prepare the scoreboard for each new game or round.
- Record penalties, fouls, or other game-specific events that affect the game.
- Communicate score updates to coaches, players, officials and gym supervisors.
- Ensure the scoreboard is functioning correctly and troubleshoot any issues.
- Monitor and update game time if applicable.
- Manage equipment and ensure all gear is in good condition. May be required to set-up and break-down materials used for games.
- Always represent the organization professionally and positively.
- Provides excellent customer service, including interacting with participants to answer questions and resolve problems.
- Keeps supervisor informed of customer and facility needs and reports any issues and concerns.
- Promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, and a love for the game.
- Communicate and enforce all city, department, building and/or park policies and procedures if applicable; complete any necessary reports and forms (i.e., Incident Report, Attendance Record, etc.)
- Attend scheduled meetings as required.
- Perform related duties as required
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - Must pass basic sports understanding test.
- Must hold current CPR/AED certification or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Ages 14-15 limited to:
- School in Session - 3 hours/day; 18 hours/week between 7: 00 AM to 7: 00 PM.
- School not in Session - 8 hours/day; 40 hours/week, no later than 9: 00 PM.
