Description:

This position is responsible for leading and supervising children and staff in the B.A.S.E. Afterschool Program and School's Out Day Camps. Key duties include ensuring student safety, managing behavior, and providing engaging activities while maintaining compliance with all state licensing rules and regulations. Responsibilities include supervising staff, communicating with parents and supervisors, opening and closing the facility, preparing snacks, maintaining program spaces, recording attendance, and assisting with health or injury situations. The role also involves planning and implementing activities in arts and crafts, sports, games, and STEM for children ages 5-12. Must be at least 21 years of age to apply for this position. TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE: The position requires working knowledge of First Aid techniques and emergency response procedures. It also requires a basic understanding of instructional and recreational program development, as well as knowledge of group and individual recreation activities, including their rules and proper conduct. Additionally, the role requires familiarity with a variety of recreational equipment, including its proper use and limitations within diverse youth programs. SKILL: This position requires skill in understanding and responding effectively to customer needs. It also requires proficiency in operating program equipment, office devices such as copiers and fax machines, and communication tools including telephones and two-way radios. Additionally, the role requires competence in using a variety of sports and recreational equipment and the ability to administer First Aid and CPR when necessary. ABILITY: The position requires the ability to actively participate in swimming and water-related activities with children. It also requires maintaining confidentiality, managing multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment, and effectively diffusing and handling stressful or volatile situations. The ability to follow and promote City and Department policies and procedures is essential, as is the capacity to communicate and work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, the role requires a strong commitment to workplace safety, including following safety rules, practicing safe work habits, using appropriate equipment, and promptly reporting unsafe conditions. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Program Directors must be at least 21 years of age and meet one of the following qualifications: hold a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related field such as Child Development, Psychology, Early Childhood or Elementary Education, Special Education, Family Studies, Recreation, or Human Services; hold an Associate's degree or have completed 60 semester credit hours from an accredited college or university and have at least three months (455 hours) of experience caring for and supervising four or more children over the age of four; have 21 months (3, 185 hours) of qualifying experience and either six semester hours of college coursework or 40 clock hours of training in school-age child care completed within the first nine months in the role; or hold a current Early Childhood Professional Credential Level II or higher under Colorado's credentialing system. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive: Supervise, guide, and assist students during crafts, art projects, games, STEM and other activities to promote development and engagement. Monitor student behavior, manage discipline situations, and encourage positive behavior. Ensure the health and safety of children by monitoring activities and facility security; provide basic First Aid and administer medication as directed. Maintain compliance with all state licensing requirements and organizational policies. Develop and implement lesson plans and engaging activities in alignment with program goals. Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and teachers regarding program updates, child progress, and any concerns. Record attendance, follow up on absences, and verify identification during child pick-up. Prepare, maintain, and track snack inventory; clean and organize program areas after use. Open and close program areas; secure the facility at the end of the program. Plan and oversee daily, weekly, and seasonal program schedules, ensuring a balanced mix of activities. Lead staff by providing ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations. Conduct regular staff meetings and training sessions to support development and compliance. Complete required reports, maintain accurate attendance, and monitor participant records (e.g., ePACT profiles). Manage supplies and equipment within budget constraints. Oversee medication administration and ensure staff follow health and safety procedures. Address and resolve parent concerns promptly and professionally. Maintain clear communication with the Youth Programs Coordinator and Supervisor. Perform other related duties as assigned. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be 21 years of age with a valid driver's license and a good driving record. Criminal background check is required for hire and reference checks will be conducted. CPR/AED, First Aid, and Universal Precautions certifications are required within 30 days of hire.
