  • Plant Operator B: $25.53 - $34.47 Hourly
  • Plant Operator C: $23.70 - $30.82 Hourly
  • Plant Operator D: $21.54 - $28.03 Hourly

  • NOTE: Operator level will be determined based on experience and certifications.

Short Job Description:

The Wastewater Treatment and Reclamation Operator is an integral part of the plant operations team who will also communicate and work closely with other treatment plant staff.

Job Summary:

The Wastewater Treatment and Reclamation Operator is an integral part of the plant operations team who will also communicate and work closely with other treatment plant staff. The WTRF Operator adjusts and monitors wastewater treatment plant equipment, monitors treatment parameters, performs process control lab tests, records data, adjusts the application of chemicals and maintains the operations of the treatment facility, prepares reports, and works on special projects as may be assigned. The position requires being able to work flexible schedules which at times will include working weekends, holidays, evenings, or "on call" shifts.

The position to be filled is likely a night shift position at the Greeley WTRF. Night shift is currently a 10-hour shift, 3: 30 pm to 1: 30 am, 4 nights/week with 3 days off every week.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants.
  • Ability to read and interpret gauges and meters used in regulating operations of plant equipment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to monitor objects and data for compliance and operating standards.
  • Ability to perform daily record keeping, water quality sampling, and routing laboratory analysis.
  • Ability to record and maintain data; collect and analyze water samples.
  • Ability to perform other functions such as janitorial and mechanical maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of PC-based methods, SCADA and software in Microsoft windows environment including, Microsoft Word and Excel desired.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and ages.

Minimum Requirements

A Operator

  • Two (2) plus years of experience in wastewater treatment.
  • Current Class “A Wastewater Operator” certification valid in the State of Colorado.
  • Two (2) plus years of experience in the operation and maintenance of water treatment plants.
  • Valid and current driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

B Operator:

  • Current Class “B Wastewater Operator” certification valid in the State of Colorado and must obtain Class “A Water” Colorado certification within two (2) years of hire.
  • One and a half (1 ½) to Two (2) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment.
  • Valid and current driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

C Operator

  • Current class “C” Wastewater Operator” certification valid in the State of Colorado and must obtain Class “A” Colorado Certification within (3) years.
  • 6 – 12 months of experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants.
  • Valid and current driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

D Operator:

  • Current class “D Wastewater Operator” certification valid in the State of Colorado and must obtain Class “A” Colorado Certification within (4) years.
  • Valid and current driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

OR

  • A combination of education, experience, licensure, or certification that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job may be considered by the hiring authority.
  • The ability to obtain a Class “D” Colorado Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification once requirements are met.
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art equipment including SCADA systems and wastewater treatment plant instrumentation.
  • Valid Adult CPR certificate is desired.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

  • Interpret water quality/quantity data and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Travel:

Occasional travel locally to site visits; possible travel to training and certification opportunities.

Work Environment:

  • Position requires extensive time at a computer performing research, and drafting documents and email communications.
  • This is primarily a sedentary position with business conducted in an office setting.
  • Office environment with travel to and appearance in meetings other formal environments.
  • Busy office activity with frequent inflexible deadlines.
  • May be required to drive personal vehicle for business purposes.
  • Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals & gases.
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires extensive time at a computer performing legal research, and drafting documents and email communications.
  • Vision enough to interpret computer screens and documents to assist the public and complete work assignments; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Manual dexterity enough to accurately input, retrieve and verify work assignments; employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Light to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing, walking, keypunching, and oral communication; maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks; frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.
