Key Responsibilities

Carbon Project Development & Technical Documentation
  • Lead baseline assessments, feasibility studies, data collection, and stakeholder consultations for forestry-based carbon projects (AFOLU/REDD+/ARR).
  • Prepare and submit Initial Site Assessment / First Monitoring Reports in line with international carbon standards.
  • Author comprehensive Project Design Documents (PDDs), including baseline scenarios, additionality demonstrations, monitoring plans, leakage assessments, and environmental & social safeguards.
  • Conduct or oversee biomass surveys, carbon stock estimations, emission reduction calculations, and related technical studies.
  • Ensure full alignment with approved international carbon methodologies (e.g., VCS, Gold Standard, or equivalent).
Validation, Verification & Registration Support
  • Act as primary technical focal point for engagement with accredited Validation & Verification Bodies (VVBs), including audit planning and coordination.
  • Compile and submit complete validation and verification evidence packages for clients (calculations, GIS maps, datasets, consultation records, safeguards documentation).
  • Manage and close Corrective Action Requests (CARs) and Clarification Requests (CLs) through to successful approval.
  • Support end-to-end project registration for clients under the selected carbon standard, including submission management and follow-up until formal acceptance.
Institutional Capacity Building & Training
  • Design and deliver structured training programs for stakeholders on carbon finance and full MRV cycles, including hands-on practical exercises.
  • Develop training materials, case studies, and simulation exercises tailored to forestry operations and national contexts.
  • Prepare operational manuals, SOPs, templates, and step-by-step guidance to enable internal replication and long-term capacity retention.
Strategic & Technical Advisory
  • Provide advisory support to clients/stakeholders on carbon project strategy, MRV system design, and methodology/standard selection.
  • Advise clients on strategies to maximize carbon revenue while ensuring environmental integrity, compliance, and risk management (crediting options, pricing pathways, cost optimization).
  • Identify, strengthen, and integrate co-benefits (biodiversity conservation, community livelihoods, climate resilience) into project design and reporting frameworks.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Advanced degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Climate Change, Natural Resource Management, or related field.
  • 7-10+ years of experience in forestry or AFOLU carbon project development, including successful project registrations.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience preparing PDDs, monitoring reports, and validation/verification submissions.
  • Strong working knowledge of international carbon standards and MRV methodologies.
  • Proven experience engaging with VVBs and responding to CARs/CLs.
  • Experience in training delivery and institutional capacity building within government or public-sector forestry agencies.
