Description:

  • Exciting new career opportunity for the proven Account Manager

Key Account Manager - Canterbury (Christchurch)
12-month Fixed Term Contract

Own the relationships that shape Canterbury's commercial build pipeline. As our Key Account Manager, you'll be the face of PDL by Schneider Electric across Canterbury-growing share with electrical contractors, commercial project stakeholders, wholesalers, builders and specifiers.

Why Christchurch? PDL's story began here-founded in 1937 in Christchurch and later acquired by Schneider Electric in 2001. The brand's deep local roots and national presence make it a trusted name.

What you'll be doing
  • Own and grow a named portfolio of key accounts across Canterbury with strategic account plans, stakeholder maps and clear growth targets.
  • Win commercial projects end-to-end: identify opportunities early, influence design/spec, shape bills-of-material, and convert bids with contractors, consultants, builders and end users.
  • Enable contractors to deliver: run toolbox talks, CPD-style sessions and product demos that lift safety, efficiency and install quality.
  • Strengthen distributor partnerships: co-create joint business plans with electrical wholesalers; activate promotions, training and counter days to pull product through.
  • Negotiate and close: manage pricing frameworks, quotes and variations; protect margin and value while growing mix.
  • Plan and forecast: build territory plans by segment; maintain CRM hygiene; deliver accurate forecasts and credible pipeline reviews.
  • Activate the market: represent the brand at trade events/expos; curate local reference sites and case studies with marketing.
  • Work cross-functionally: tap national marketing, technical specialists, operations and leadership to remove roadblocks and deliver on customer commitments.
  • Travel the region (some overnight) with a fully maintained vehicle and modern digital selling tools.
Your support network
  • National, zone and global support: marketing, technical, operations and leadership-expert resources with local decision-making.
  • Digital enablement: content, analytics and tools to prioritise the right customers and opportunities.

What we're looking for
You're a relationship-first seller who builds trust fast and turns conversations into long-term partnerships. We're open to territory sales profiles and adjacent industries-if you know how to win with contractors, projects and distributors, we'll teach you the product.

  • Success in key account, territory or field sales-B2B, contractor or project-driven environments.
  • Adjacent industry experience welcome (e.g., building materials, HVAC, lighting, tools, construction, safety gear, or related trade channels).
  • Rapport builder who's confident on job sites and in boardrooms; strong presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Commercial acumen: can read a project, protect margin, and spot pull-through opportunities.
  • Digitally savvy and organised: CRM discipline, pipeline hygiene, and data-driven planning.
  • Full NZ driver's licence.
What success looks like
  • Specification wins and increased share across Canterbury commercial projects.
  • Contractor advocacy: repeat use, training attendance and brand preference.
  • Healthy pipeline and accurate forecasts that match delivered results.
  • Flawless execution with wholesalers and project stakeholders-on time, on budget, zero surprises.
