Position Summary:

The Senior Systems Engineer specializing in X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) plays a critical role in advancing our imaging technology and applications. This position requires a highly analytical, technically skilled and self-driven individual capable of architecting and designing 3D X-ray imaging systems, optimizing system performance, leading troubleshooting efforts and diagnosing problem root causes, and providing expert guidance to both engineering teams and clients. The ideal candidate should have experience in designing, calibrating, and characterizing X-ray CT systems. They should also be able to connect technology with different applications and maintain clear and detailed documentation.

Here's what you'll do:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: (Responsibilities that are central to the job and MUST be performed either unaided, or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation)
  • 3D X-ray System Design and Architecture: Lead development of new products and system improvements enabling new applications and pushing the limits of image quality, resolution and throughput while maintaining cost effectiveness, usability, manufacturability and serviceability.
  • Performance Characterization: Conduct thorough, quantitative characterization of X-ray CT system performance. Design and execute experiments to benchmark system capabilities, validate resolution and accuracy, and establish baseline metrics for ongoing improvement.
  • X-ray CT Image Analysis and Diagnostics: Independently review and interpret X-ray CT images to identify defects, performance anomalies, and underlying root cause issues. Develop protocols for systematic image assessment and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve imaging problems.
  • System Troubleshooting: Lead and mentor troubleshooting efforts for complex X-ray CT systems. Apply structured problem-solving techniques to isolate root causes, recommend corrective actions, and verify solutions. Document troubleshooting processes and maintain a knowledge base for recurring issues.
  • Calibration: Oversee and execute the calibration of X-ray CT systems using established protocols and innovative approaches. Ensure all calibration activities are compliant with industry standards, and document results to guide future optimization.
  • Error Budgeting: Develop and manage comprehensive error budgets for X-ray CT systems and associated processes. Identify sources of uncertainty, quantify their impact on system performance, and recommend strategies to minimize error and maximize reliability.
  • Bridge System Engineering and Applications: Serve as a technical liaison between research, product development and application engineering teams. Translate customer and use case requirements into actionable system specifications, facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration, and guide the development of new CT applications.
  • Python Coding: Write, maintain, and optimize Python scripts for data analysis, automation, image processing, and simulation tasks related to X-ray CT systems. Collaborate with software engineers to improve codebase robustness and extend functionality.
  • Document Specifications and Procedures: Prepare detailed technical documentation including system specifications, calibration procedures, experimental results, troubleshooting guides, and user manuals. Ensure clarity, accuracy, and regulatory compliance in all documentation.

Do you qualify?

Experience and Education Requirements:
  • Minimum Bachelor's or degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field. Graduate level degreed preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with X-ray CT imaging systems, including design, root cause analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Research background in X-ray CT technology required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in calibration of complex imaging systems and performance optimization.
  • Proficiency in Python programming for scientific and engineering applications, including image analysis and simulation.
  • Strong track record of documenting technical specifications, procedures, and experimental findings for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop and deliver technical training to multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated experience bridging application requirements across engineering, research, and product development.
  • Expertise in error analysis and budgeting for high-precision imaging systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for audiences ranging from engineers to clients.
  • Self-motivated, results-driven, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently as well as part of collaborative teams.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience integrating CT systems into larger test and measurement environments.
  • Familiarity with industrial CT applications, including materials science, aerospace, automotive, and medical imaging.
  • Experience with advanced image processing algorithms and CT data reconstruction.
  • Experience with training engineers and technical staff on X-ray CT concepts, system operation, troubleshooting methods, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for X-ray CT systems and application-specific compliance standards.
  • Proven ability to innovate and contribute to patentable technologies or publications within the imaging field.

The annual pay range for this position is $139, 000 - $173, 000

The pay offered for this role may be influenced by factors such as job location, scope of role, qualifications, education, experience, & complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent.
