Job Description

Simpson University is hiring a Director of Library Services in Redding, CA. This is a full-time position.

The Director of Library Services, as the chief administrative officer of the library and administrator with faculty status, provides vision and leadership in integrating new information technologies and expanding the library's role as a Learning Commons in the university community; oversees all library operations; and, represents the university at meetings of professional library organizations. Administrative faculty responsibilities continue through twelve months each year. Qualifications: 1. An ALA-accredited graduate degree in library and information science 2. Five years of professional experience in academic librarianship 3. Three years management/supervisory experience 4. Understanding of and experience with Integrated Library Systems (ILS) 5. Knowledge of electronic resources employed by libraries 6. Aptitude with productivity software 7. Experience with electronic resource licensing including utilization of consortium agreements and direct connections with vendors 8. Experience with assessment efforts and accreditation guidelines specific to libraries 9. The ability to work harmoniously with faculty, staff and administration 10. A strong commitment to the university's mission Preferred Qualifications: 1. A second graduate degree either in administration or in a subject area of importance to the university curriculum 2. Experience working with the various functions of a Learning Commons including writing and tutoring centers. 3. Experience with the OCLC WorldShare ILS 4. Experience with Microsoft Office 5. Experience with library content management systems (LibGuides preferred), integrated institutional database applications and learning management systems General Expectations: 1. Perform other duties in accordance with this position as deemed necessary by the immediate supervisor Responsibilities: 1. Serves as the chief administrative officer of the library 2. Provides visionary leadership of library operations to align the library's services and design with the current and future needs of the institution. 3. Participates in faculty meetings and serves on faculty committees as appointed by the Provost 4. Serves as a member of the Learning Resources Committee, Traditional Undergraduate Academic Council, Provost's Council, and the Graduate Academic Council 5. Oversees the development and application of policies governing the use, preservation and circulation of library collections 6. Recruits, leads, develops and evaluates a staff of professional librarians, paraprofessional employees and/or student employees 7. Promotes appropriate technologies in providing library services to faculty, students and staff that help foster a learning environment 8. Promotes information literacy and life-long learning through an effective library instructional program 9. Works closely with the faculty and the Assistant Dean of Student Success to identify and provide the library services and resources necessary to support the university curriculum, faculty research, and student learning. 10. Creates and maintains a means of communication with faculty and students to keep them abreast of changes and new developments in the library 11. Prepares and manages the library's budget 12. Oversees collection development with an emphasis on electronic resources and the periodic review and revision of collection development policies 13. Prepares periodic library reports for administrators and committees of the university, government agencies and professional associations 14. Monitors the library's compliance with the standards of the Association of College and Research Libraries and the university's accrediting agencies 15.
