Dietary Cook to join our dietary team. The Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, appetizing meals for our residents while maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment. This position plays a key role in ensuring quality food service and resident satisfaction.
General PurposeThe primary responsibility of the Dietary Cook is to manage and operate the kitchen in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor. This position reports directly to the
Dietary Supervisor and supports daily kitchen operations, meal preparation, and food service.
Essential DutiesEvery effort has been made to identify the essential functions of this position; however, this does not imply that these are the only duties you will be required to perform.
- Maintain the kitchen and cooking areas in a safe, clean, orderly, and sanitary condition.
- Prepare meals in accordance with planned menus and portion control guidelines.
- Cook a variety of foods in large quantities while ensuring quality and taste.
- Accurately prepare and serve special diets, including therapeutic and modified diets.
- Prepare pureed and texture-modified foods as required.
- Record food temperatures for meals in accordance with safety regulations.
- Maintain proper sanitation, including quaternary solution levels in sanitizer buckets.
- Assist with meal service and ensure timely delivery of meals to residents.
- Clean cooking areas, equipment, and serving carts after use.
- Ensure all cleaning schedules are followed consistently.
- Present food in an appealing manner to enhance the dining experience for residents.
- Work cooperatively with staff across all departments.
- Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
- Report any resident concerns or issues to the Administrator and/or Director of Nursing.
- Assist in supervising kitchen operations in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor.
Supervisory RequirementsThis position has
supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor.
QualificationsEducation and/or Experience- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience as a cook in a hospital or long-term care facility preferred.
Language Skills- Ability to read and follow recipes and technical procedures.
- Ability to effectively communicate with managers, staff, and team members.
Mathematical Skills- Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
Reasoning Ability- Ability to solve practical problems and interpret written, oral, or diagram instructions.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations- Must obtain and maintain a ServSafe Certification.
- Must remain in good standing with the Department of Public Health.
- Experience with PointClickCare (PCC) preferred.
Physical DemandsThe essential functions of this position require the following physical abilities:
- Standing and/or walking frequently.
- Sitting occasionally.
- Frequent reaching, pushing, and pulling.
- Frequent talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception with the ability to adjust focus.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment is a healthcare kitchen setting with a
