Get to Know This Role
The IS Data Engineer performs technical work associated with supporting and maintaining the company's data assets. Reporting to the Director of IS Operations, and working as part of the Data Services team, this position is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining systems that enable the organization to collect, store, and analyze large volumes of data efficiently. It is a crucial role in developing and optimizing data pipelines, ensuring data quality, and enabling seamless access to data for stakeholders like analysts, data scientists, and business teams. This position may be based out of the Chico, CA, Mills River, NC brewery, or Remote.

What You Will Do
  • Data Pipeline Development: Design, implement, and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines. Automate workflows to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from multiple sources.
  • Data Infrastructure Management: Build and maintain databases, data warehouses, and data lakes. Optimize storage solutions to handle structured and unstructured data.
  • Data Quality Assurance: Develop and implement processes for data validation and integrity. Monitor data pipelines to detect and resolve issues proactively.
  • Performance Optimization: Ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance through monitoring and tuning. Optimize query performance and database indexing strategies.
  • Collaborates with data services team to define, implement and organize user-facing analytics tools, e.g., dashboards, metrics and predictive models
  • Identify and catalog valuable data sources
  • Consults with key stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand both business needs and how work is done; delivers tools for pilot with large or unstructured data sets
  • Conducts and supports routine and non-routine analysis of business processes, and process trends; supports other (self-identified or directed) areas of the business with analytics
  • Exceptional communication skills: interpersonal, verbal, written, and presentation skills for both internal and external purposes; knows how to provide and present data from the customer’s point of view (internal or external)
  • Team player with the ability to work autonomously with focus and determination
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions and support or implement programs for solutions
  • Ability to effectively navigate ambiguity and lead change in an environment with changing priorities
  • Write/maintain system documentation
  • Fosters an environment of learning by openly sharing knowledge, role modeling productive behaviors, and coaching or training others in best data practices
  • Proactively engages end-users for productive feedback loops and future development
  • Ability to represent SNBCo. at the industry, market, and consumer level with the highest level of integrity and professionalism is required
  • Skilled in data analysis, strong critical thinking skills, organized, and respectful at all times; prioritizes musts before wants

Please Apply if You Have
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics or any combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved required
  • 3 years Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala. required and
  • 3 years Experience with database technologies (SQL, NoSQL, or graph databases) required
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with of SQL and Python programming languages; familiarity with R, Scala, Java or C++ is an asset
  • Familiarity with big data technologies like Hadoop, Hive, Databricks, Fabric or Snowflake.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, schema design, and database optimization.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to multi-task and remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited of nonexistent standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Investigate, identify and solve problems quickly and efficiently
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team
