Department:
Telemetry / 4-T

Works under the supervision of the Department Manager/Charge Nurse. Unit Assistants II's will be assigned to one of Two (2) primary functions on a given unit. Unit Assistant II will be required to maintain competency for both functions. Assignment one (A-1) primary responsibility for monitoring telemetry patients at the Central Monitoring Station, recognizing rhythm abnormalities and escalating per policy. Assignment two (A-2), primary responsibility to manage the clerical duties associated with preparing, compiling, and monitoring the patient record on a Clinical Nursing unit. Floating within the unit groupings or outside of job class will be in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Utilizes positive communication skills. Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate appropriately to the age of all those served by Salinas Valley Health. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Monitors telemetry patient's cardiac rhythm, blood pressure, SpO2, and respiratory rate while on telemetry/cardiac monitoring.
  • Prints rhythm strips every 4 hours for Registered Nurse Interpretation. Prints strips for RN review on any critical "Red" alarm per the Cardiac Telemetry
  • Monitoring and Management Policy.
  • Maintains patient records.
  • Assists with ordering and maintaining department supplies.
  • Utilizes positive communication skills to effect conflict resolution and teamwork.
  • Maintains and improves organization and operations of nursing stations.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
  • Contributes to cost effective patient care by monitoring use of time, equipment and supplies.
  • Complies with safety policies and procedures in order to provide a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors.
  • Demonstrates necessary flexibility in regard to changes in Hospital or department activities.
  • Actively participates in achieving departmental goals.
  • Applies knowledge of cardiac monitor guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education: A High School diploma or GED required. Required to attend and successfully pass the EKG Rhythm recognition course and test. Successful completions of Medical Assistant or a Certified Nursing Assistant program preferred.

Licensure: Attends EKG Rhythm recognition class and successfully passes the exam upon hire, then maintains competency annually by achieving a passing score of 80% on the recognition test.

Experience: One year experience in an acute care facility preferred.

Schedule: Night 7p-7a - 12hr Shifts

Pay Range: The hourly rate for this position is $29.62 - $36.01 The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position.

Shift Differentials:

Hourly Evening Shift Differential: $2.00

Hourly Night Shift Differential: $4.00
