Department: Surgery
Meets eligibility requirements for Registered Nurse I and II. This first level full time management position assists in ensuring the quality of nursing care provided to the surgical patient meets the standard of practice consistent with the policies and procedures of the Surgical Services Department and that the management of staff coincides with the rules and regulations outlined in the CNA Agreement. This position involves supervising, instructing, coordinating and organizing personnel activities, equipment and materials utilized in surgery under the overall direction of the Assistant Director of Surgery. Should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit. Direct patient care will be performed as assigned.
- Completes nursing assessment of patient and documents appropriately into patient record.
- Develops a plan of care based upon the assessment of the patient.
- Collaborates with physicians and other health team members in developing a plan of care.
- Provides, delegates and coordinates the plan of care.
- Utilizes management skills to promote the achievement of departmental goals and demonstrates ability and willingness to function as the Assistant Director/AHN as assigned.
- Collaborates with appropriate departments to accomplish predefined goals and provides the Senior Administrative Director with current information and progress reports.
- Works with the Senior Administrative Director and appropriate staff to establish departmental standards for surgical specialty and documentation of patient care.
- Maintains professional standards by participating in continuing education/in-services, committees and Performance Improvement.
- Facilitates physiological, psychosocial, and spiritual care of the patient.
- Maintains safe work environment.
- Responsible for the daily operations of their surgical specialty, in conjunction with the Assistant Director/AHN, to ensure that policies, practices, procedures and standards are followed.
- Provides input for development of specialty budget.
- Maintains effective unit operations by participating in the orientation/training of nursing staff as well as providing input to the evaluation process.
- Maintains a highest degree of clinical expertise in their chosen specialty. The performance of this employee is at a level well beyond what is normally expected of the majority of experienced employees.
- Should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: BSN preferred.
Licensure: Effective July 1, 2003, a minimum of an Associate's degree in Nursing and a current California RN license. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards. ACLS & CNOR preferred in Surgery.
Experience: At least (3) three years current experience required within chosen specialty. Must have successfully completed SVMH Pharmacology test. (See Medication Administration ME.1 and Employment Process for New Hires, Transfers and Temporary Employees APM F.6).
The hourly rate for this position is $76.71 - $93.24. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position
