Department: MRI
Under minimal supervision, performs specialized diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as requested by a physician to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the population of the patients served on his/her unit. Medical MRI technologists, , utilize magnetic resonance imaging scanners to capture specific images ordered by a physician to aid in patient diagnosis. CT technologists, utilize ionizing radiation computed tomography scanners to capture specific images ordered by a physician to aid in patient diagnosis. MRI/CT techs must be able to closely follow a physician's instructions, prepare and operate equipment, position patients correctly and effectively record the requested diagnostic images. Performs other duties as assigned.
- Performs at least two separate modalities in Imaging to include Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of the following areas to include but not limited to: cardiac, neuro, abdominal, chest, spine, and extremities.
- Transports patients by stretcher, bed, wheelchair, or walking. Provides care for patients during transportation and within the department, if necessary.
- Assists patients by lifting and moving them off and on the imaging table. Provides bedpans and urinals as needed. Assures that patients are properly dressed for procedures.
- Prepares patient for their exam by consenting, explaining exam and answering patient questions.
- Starts intravenous lines and administers contrast and other preparations as to complete exam safely and in a timely fashion.
- Cares for patient during procedures by assisting them to rest rooms, providing blankets, etc.
- Assists with emergency medical treatment under physician direction.
- Pulls contrast from medication dispenser per protocol and documents contrast in hospital information system (HIS) per protocol.
- Is competent in loading and operating the power injector for contrast studies.
- Technologist may give contrast medias and may flush lines with normal saline.
- Under direct supervision of the Radiologist, the technologist may pull Xylocaine for procedure.
- Performs data entry in computer systems necessary for work flow and patient care, such as: radiology information system (RIS), PACS and hospital information systems (HIS).
- Performs related duties such as reporting equipment malfunctions, assisting others, and special assignments.
- Keeps work area clean and organized.
- Monitors patient condition pre and post-procedure and reports changes in the patient's condition to the Radiologist, Cardiologist, or RN for follow-up.
- Skillfully operates all MR and CT systems to comply with all equipment specification. Is proficient on 3D software and can perform post processing reconstructions for MRI and CT exams.
- Demonstrates proficiency in confirming patient demographics and obtaining adequate patient history prior to beginning a procedure.
- Practices infection control (disinfection) with all procedures and hand-washing before and after each patient.
- Knows procedure for the release of patients.
- Accurately charges all procedures, supplies, and non-billable items by the end of the work shift.
- Identifies cross section anatomy and uses appropriate protocols for parts examined.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the use of CT and MRI patient monitoring systems.
- Assists physicians with complex procedures and records pertinent information.
- Orders and maintains the department order of supplies.
- Reports equipment malfunctions for repair.
Education: Completion of a two-year Radiologic Technology training program approved by the American Medical Association (AMA) required. Associate's degree in a program related to the radiology field.
Licensure: Registered with the ARRT(M) (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) or ARMIT (American Registry of MRI technologists) required. Registered ARRT(CT) required. Intravenous Therapy certification required. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards required.
Experience: Two years of experience as a licensed technologist.
The hourly rate for this position is $63.89 - $77.65. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position
