Department: Lactation Services
Lactation Specialist provides assistance to women and infants in the Mother Baby, Neonatal Intensive Care, Pediatric Unit, and out-patient services, who are attempting to establish and/or maintain breastfeeding. Promotes long-term breastfeeding success through providing outpatient consultation and support. Develops, implements and evaluates breastfeeding education for families, patient, staff and medical personnel.
- Plans, organizes and delivers lactation services to all breastfeeding patients, both inpatient and outpatient.
- Conducts bedside rounds daily.
- Consults with mothers having breastfeeding problems.
- Direct phone line available for patients needing lactation assistance and answered within 24-hours, or on the following Monday when it is a weekend.
- Selects appropriate breastfeeding education for post partum discharge and community resources.
- Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
- Complies with safety policies and procedures in order to provide a safe environment for employees, patients, and visitors.
- Actively participates in achieving departmental goals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (BSN) required. New hires/transfers have two and a half (2.5) years to obtain BSN from date of hire/transfer.
Licensure: Current California Registered Nurse license required. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards required. Current International Board of Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification required. Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) status as per the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Heart Association required.
Experience: A minimum of two (2) years' experience in an acute care hospital required. Lactation consultation experience within the past 5 years preferred.
Pay Range: The hourly rate for this position is $69.95 - $85.03. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position
