Department: Human Resources
Position works under the supervision of the Manager, Human Resources. The HR Generalist performs Human Resources related duties at the professional level with both breadth and depth across all functional areas of HR . This position primarily supports the Benefits Specialist by handling day-to-day benefits inquiries, assisting with open enrollment, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The HR Generalist will also support our Employee Relations Specialist.
Job Duties:
- Partners with benefit broker, insurance vendors and third party administrators to ensure vendors meet established service level agreements and respond to request for information. This includes researching, advocating and communicating with various parties to ensure a positive outcome for SVMH and its employees.
- Designs communications, education, benefits reports and regulatory mailings (ex: Total Comp Statements, Open Enrollment, PTO Cash-out and ACA reporting) that highlight the value of our programs and changes. Ensures the timely reporting of all state and federal reporting.
- Partners with Benefits Broker to continuously analyze benefit offerings and recommend changes to ensure we maintain a competitive market position. In addition evaluate probationary periods, eligibility, levels of participation and review alternative benefit options and the implications of change.
- Coordinates Employee Assistance Program.
- Supports retirement programs, performance and vendor relationships to maintain positive employee morale.
- Reviews and interprets hospital and department policies as well as union contract language in the administration of our reward program.
- Oversees administrative functions related to Total Rewards such as invoice processing, data entry, meeting with employees and correspondence.
- Creates, inputs, and maintains computer data files, tracks and calculates data, and compiles reports as necessary.
- Assists in the cover/relief of other department staff as needed and assists with special projects as necessary. Demonstrates necessary flexibility in regard to changes in the Hospital or department activities.
- The position is expected to have a high level of professionalism and is expected to make decisions, handle complex problems, and communicate verbally and in writing to clients including managing the same issue with both employees and management.
- Responsible for HR customer inquiries and requests through various channels - Phone, Email, Walk-In, Mail, Self-Service etc. Conducts warm transfers to HR specialists as needed - sharing relevant details required to ensure a positive outcome for our customers.
- Continuously seeks opportunities to improve access, response times and the delivery of HR services including expanding opportunities for self-service.
- A key contributor to the research, development and implementation of HR performance improvement initiatives including the development of communications channels, education and presentations.
- Partners with the Talent Acquisition specialists on the onboarding new hires, contingent staffing management, and administering employee data changes as needed.
- Partners with the Total Rewards specialist on the delivery of benefits, compensation, retirement and employee recognition activities.
- Partners with the HRIS, Reporting, and Compliance Specialist to maintain employee database, auditing and provides standard HR reports to the business as needed.
- Partners with the ELR Specialist to provide support in the areas of employee relations, investigations, grievances and note taking a labor management meetings.

- Assists in the cover/relief of other department staff as needed and assists with special projects as necessary. Demonstrates necessary flexibility in regard to changes in the Hospital or department activities.
- Executes HR administrative duties as assigned including ID badges, supply ordering, employment verification administration, invoices, processing employee changes, auditing, and electronic employee record administration.
- Is able to work independently with a minimal amount of supervision.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Work requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Bachelor's degree in business or Human Resources related field strongly preferred.
Licensure: HRCI, SHRM HR or Workday certification is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience preferably in Total Rewards or Recruitment. Knowledge of fundamental principles and practices of Human Resources Administration and Workday preferred.
Pay Range: The hourly rate for this position is $34.93 - $45.00. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position.
