Position works under the supervision of the Department Director. The Department Assistant provides complex and responsible secretarial assistance to the Department. Performs clerical duties by recording and maintaining information, scheduling appointments and answering requests for information as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Answers the telephone promptly and courteously to ensure smooth and accurate communication. Records and communicates all messages in an accurate and timely manner.


  • Possesses good writing and English skills.


  • Possesses good organizational skills.


  • Maintains Director's appointment calendar.


  • Accurately and efficiently transcribes dictated correspondence.


  • Accurately and efficiently takes and transcribes minutes for committee/meetings as assigned by the Director/Designee.


  • Partners with the area leader to support management of staff timecards and attendance accountability reviews.


  • Maintains and updates employee performance appraisal lists.


  • Actively participates in achieving department goals.


  • Demonstrates necessary flexibility in regard to changes in Hospital or department activities.


  • Other duties as assigned, such as schedules, timecards, mailing, ordering supplies and general office duties.


Education: Work requires knowledge generally acquired through a high school education or GED. Job requires the ability to read, write, and speak English.

Experience: 2-3 years of experience employment in a office setting. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Performance Improvement: Assumes active role in the department's Continuous Performance Improvement Program. Develops, implements and assesses Continuous Performance Improvement efforts as assigned .

The hourly rate for this position is $30.17 - $36.20. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position.
