Under general supervision, provides clinically competent professional nursing care in accordance with the multidisciplinary plan of care and physician orders. Meets and exceeds all performance expectations for Registered Nurse. Applies clinical expertise in evidence-based nursing practice within the specialty and functions in the following roles: clinical expert, educator, researcher, consultant and leader. Leadership skills (systems thinker and change agents) are role assumptions. Delivers and facilitates high quality progressive nursing care. The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a licensed registered nurse who has graduate preparation (a Master's or Doctorate) in nursing as a CNS. The CNS is a clinical expert in theory-based and/or research-based nursing practice within a specialty area.
  • The CNS serves three primary clients: patient/family, nursing personnel and organization.
  • Develop, integrate, apply, and evaluate a variety of education strategies that are driven by the needs and strengths of patient and patients' families, nursing staff, medical staff, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Provides for current and evidence-based practice by utilizing and/or sharing applicable research.
  • Anticipate possible consequences of changes in systems and develop proactive strategies.
  • Develop or refine educational programs for nurses to resolve educational deficits.
  • Provides framework for assigned clinical staff competency validation and provides opportunities for professional growth, including educating staff on new and advanced application of skills.
  • Facilitate nursing staff development of skills related to patients' education (e.g. needs assessment, evaluation of learner understanding, integrating education throughout delivery of care.)
  • Create, evaluate, deliver, and coordinate formal and informal staff or interdisciplinary education to improve patients' outcomes and quality of care.
  • Directs others through expert nursing knowledge and the use of resources to achieve and/or maintain the standard of care.
  • Evaluates efficacy and safety of products, devices and technology.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education: Registered Nurse, Master's or Doctorate in nursing. Graduated from an accredited Clinical Nurse Specialist program.

Licensure: Registered Nurse certified by the State Board of Registered Nurses as a CNS (Clinical Nurse Specialist). Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status. Current NRP.

Current certification in Neonatal Intensive Care from a nationally recognized accrediting organization (i.e. NCC) * New hires/transfers have up to 6 months to meet requirements then must be continually current

Experience: At least three (3) years of clinical experience in neonatal nursing care, at least one of which shall have been in a facility with a NICU that is equivalent to a Regional or Community NICU

The hourly rate for this position is $69.15 - $95.00. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position.
