Registered Dental Hygienist

Position Summary The Registered Dental Hygienist works under the supervision of the Dental Director to provide dental cleaning services and general preventive dental care as permitted by California licensure. The RDH helps plan and implement programs to increase dental awareness, teach oral hygiene, and promote community preventive activities. Essential Duties/Responsibilities Prepare treatment rooms for patients following RHC protocols. Welcome, seat, and prepare patients for dental hygiene procedures. Provide information to patients and employees by answering questions and requests. Maintain and sharpen dental hygiene instruments as required. Complete dental prophylaxis, removing deposits and stains from teeth and gum margins. Detect disease by performing oral cancer screening, visually examining gums, using probes for periodontal assessment, and exposing/developing radiographs. Provide oral hygiene instruction and support prevention programs. Administer fluoride treatments and support implementation of fluoride programs. Apply pit and fissure sealants. Chart oral conditions and record vital signs, medical, and dental histories in patient records. Evaluate and document periodontal conditions and aid dentists in treatment plan development. Perform expanded duties under direct supervision of a dentist as allowed by law. Stay updated with preventive dentistry and periodontics advancements. Support efficient patient flow; sterilize instruments, set up trays, manage inventory, request supplies, and maintain a clean operatory. Know and implement infection control procedures. Actively participate in staff meetings. Perform all duties safely, following protective and ergonomic protocols. Take corrective actions on employee health and safety matters. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Education & Experience Graduate of an accredited Dental Hygiene Program. State of California license to practice as a Registered Dental Hygienist. One (1) year experience in private or clinical practice. Preferred Education & Experience Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene or a related field Certification in local anesthesia and nitrous oxide administration Licenses/Certificates Valid CPR Certification Valid California Drivers License Pre-Employment Requirements Pre-employment drug testing. Department of Justice fingerprint clearance through Federal, State, and Child Abuse Index. Working Environment & Physical Demands Working Environment: Work is performed in a health clinic setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Will work with blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training. This job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, and fax machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Criminal clearances are obtained to protect the welfare and safety of clients receiving services at Rolling Hills Clinic. Vaccination Requirements: Provide vaccination records to show proof of immunity for TB, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, TDAP & Hep B. If the records are more than 10 years old, titers are required to confirm immunity.
