RLH Fire Protection Inc is hiring a Fire Alarm Programmer in Bakersfield, CA. This is a full-time position.

Job Summary The Fire Alarm Programmer is responsible for programming, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting fire alarm systems in commercial and military applications. This role ensures that systems are configured in accordance with design specifications, manufacturer guidelines, and applicable fire codes. The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge of fire alarm systems, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with installation teams, project managers, and inspectors to ensure systems are fully functional and compliant. Essential Duties Program fire alarm control panels, networked systems, and associated devices according to project specifications and code requirements. Configure system components including initiating devices, notification appliances, control modules, and communication interfaces. Upload and verify system software, ensuring proper integration of all system components. Perform system testing, commissioning, and verification to ensure proper operation. Conduct functional testing of fire alarm systems in coordination with technicians, inspectors, and authorities having jurisdiction. Identify and resolve programming or system issues prior to final inspections. Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions, communication errors, and device failures. Modify and update programming to accommodate system changes, expansions, or upgrades. Provide technical support to field technicians and service teams. Work closely with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to ensure accurate system setup. Review project plans, submittals, and specifications to determine programming requirements. Coordinate with inspectors and clients during system acceptance testing. Maintain accurate records of programming configurations, test results, and system changes. Ensure all systems meet applicable codes and standards (NFPA, local codes, and manufacturer requirements). Prepare and submit programming and commissioning reports as required. Provide guidance or training to end users when needed. Qualifications Strong knowledge of fire alarm systems, including control panels, devices, and network communications. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in basic computer applications and programming software tools. Valid drivers license with a clean driving record. Must be able to pass background check to gain access to military locations. Related Experience Minimum of 25 years of experience in fire alarm systems, programming, or related field. Certifications NICET Certification in Fire Alarm Systems Fire/Life Safety Technician Certification issues by the DIR Safety/Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50bs. Can work in confined spaces Ability to work in varying outdoor temperatures, and cold indoor temperatures depending on cold box/freezer temps Comfortable working at height with either a ladder or manlift Position requires constant walking, climbing, lifting, pulling, and squatting Education Highschool diploma or equivalent. A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
