Position Summary:

Retirement Housing Foundation (RHF) has an immediate opening for a Senior Accountant at our Corporate Office in Long Beach, CA. The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting for RHF's housing operations. This position is responsible for preparing and analyzing monthly financial statements, reviewing and reconciling accounts, and working collaboratively with internal teams and external auditors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Analysis:

  • Prepare and generate monthly financial statements and other periodic financial reports as requested.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial results to management and other key stakeholders.
  • Analyze financial information to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.

General Ledger & Transactional Accounting:

  • Review and maintain general ledger, ensuring all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with GAAP and organizational policies.
  • Record journal entries, including adjustments, accruals, and reclassifications to capture all relevant financial activity.
  • Conduct regular subledger reconciliations and account analysis to verify data integrity and resolve discrepancies.

Bank Reconciliations & Cash Management:

  • Prepare and review monthly bank reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting of cash balances.
  • Investigate and resolve variances in bank accounts and other related transactions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work cross-functionally with internal departments, including Operations, Property Management, and Compliance, to ensure accurate and timely flow of financial data.
  • Provide financial insights and support to operational teams, assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis as needed.

Audit & Compliance:

  • Collaborate with external auditors during audits, ensuring timely submission of requested information and supporting documentation.
  • Assist in the preparation of audit schedules and compliance filings as required.

Process Improvement & Special Projects:

  • Recommend and assist in implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.
  • Participate in special accounting projects and initiatives as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Competencies:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of progressive accounting experience preferred, with a focus on financial reporting, account reconciliation, and general ledger management.
  • Experience working in non-profit, affordable housing, or property management accounting is a plus.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Windows, and computerized accounting systems required.
  • Experience with Oracle or similar ERP systems is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Soft Skills and Attributes:

  • Excellent attention to detail with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and external partners.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated integrity and commitment to accuracy in financial reporting.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Standard office environment at the Corporate Headquarters in Long Beach, CA.
  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods and work on a computer.
  • May require occasional travel to sites and properties.

Compensation:

Actual base salary considers several factors including but not limited to geography, job-related knowledge, experience, and budget. The start of the salary range is typically associated with the minimum experience required.

The role is considered Full Time non-exempt so will be eligible for overtime pay in accordance with federal and state law. The anticipated base pay range for the position is $44.71- $50.48 ($93, 000- $105, 000) per hour.
