SUMMARY

The Senior Typist Clerk provides clerical and administrative support for programs operating under California’s Medicaid 1115 JI Reentry Initiative, which serves Medi-Cal–eligible adults transitioning from incarceration to the community. This position supports program staff by preparing correspondence, reports, and records; maintaining accurate files and data systems; and assisting with documentation related to client services, Medi-Cal coverage, and care coordination activities. Working in collaboration with clinical and case management teams, the Senior Typist Clerk plays an essential role in ensuring timely, accurate administrative operations that support continuity of care, access to health services, and successful community reentry for justice-involved individuals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Types and processes court orders, minutes, petitions, and other legal documents requiring the analysis of complex source material and a thorough familiarity with the various legal codes in order to obtain the necessary data.
  • Answers questions that require such things as searching for and abstracting technical data and detailed explanation of laws, policies, or procedures, checks non-routine applications, collects variable fees, etc., and refers only unusual inquiries to their immediate superior.
  • Checks legal documents such as writs, petitions, warrants, court orders purchase orders, claims and bonds for form, validity, and compliance in order to ensure the completion of work by program participants as applicable.
  • Advises staff on problems, and on their own initiative, makes such decisions as are permissible.
  • Reviews for accuracy and conformity to established procedures the work of others performing preliminary operations in the course of the flow of work.
  • Makes final check of permits, authorizations, documentation, referrals, reports, etc., without higher level review.
  • Prepares correspondence requiring the application of highly specialized knowledge and discrimination in the selection of data or interpretation of laws, rules, or policies.
  • Routinely accesses such office equipment as video display terminals, word processors, or personal computers to input data, perform computations, or produce documents not requiring the formatting or programming of such equipment.
  • Prepares and submits reports and referrals
  • Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Assists team with other tasks as needed
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to exercise sound judgement while working in a stressful environment. Able to lift up to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting.

Education/Experience

  • Three (3) years office clerical experience involving typewriting, one (1) year of which must have been in a specialized clerical capacity.

Certificates/Licenses/Clearances

  • Successfully clear the LA County Live Scan process.
  • Successfully clear the Health Clearance

Other Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Willing to work in Correctional Health Facilities.
  • Ability to type at the rate of 40 net words per minute.
