Description:

Heluna Health and RTI International seek a Research Interviewer to conduct data collection for a community-based research project with people who use drugs in the San Francisco Bay area.

RTI International – MOON Study (0997)

The Research Interviewer will conduct informed consent processes and quantitative data collection with research participants and provide interested participants with referrals to health and social services. The Interviewer will assist the Project Coordinators with activities related to setting up and breaking down field sites, building relationships with field site staff, participants, and community-based organizations, and creating environments of care, respect, and safety for community members participating in the research.

Data collection for the study will run until approximately April 2027.

This is a 50%-time position (20 hours per week) with some potential hours on weekends, early mornings, and evenings. Study operating hours will vary during the study period. The current workdays include Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays with hours varying by day from 8 am to 5 pm. Work will be conducted at multiple community field sites (indoors and outdoors) and through street outreach across San Francisco, CA.

We are seeking a flexible and detail-oriented person with strong interpersonal skills who has experience (paid or volunteer) with data collection, harm reduction, trauma informed practices, and engagement with people who are homeless, use drugs, and have mental health concerns.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $29.00 per hour.

Employment is provided by Heluna Health.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conduct informed consent processes with research subjects
  • Conduct structured, quantitative surveys with research subjects
  • Operate computerized data collection program (CAPI) on a laptop computer and tablet
  • Comply with IRB human subjects’ protocols
  • Provide interested research subjects with referrals to health and social services
  • Create environments of care, respect, and safety for community members participating in the research
  • Assist Project Coordinator with set up and break down of field sites
  • Other duties as assigned

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • One (1) year experience in quantitative data collection, preferred
  • One (1) year experience working with marginalized populations, such as people who use drugs and people experiencing homelessness
  • Familiarity with the practice and principles of harm reduction
  • Fluent in Spanish, preferred
  • Experience using computerized data collection programs, preferred
  • Experience with motivational interviewing / counseling, preferred

Certificates/Licenses/Clearances

  • Background clearance required
  • A valid California driver’s license, proof of vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions

Other Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of local San Francisco resources (housing, employment, food, etc.)
