Heluna Health invites applications for the full-time position of Mobile Medical Van Driver and Outreach Assistant. Bridge HIV is a grant-funded research unit affiliated with the San Francisco Department of Public Health and the University of California San Francisco. Under the direction of Susan Buchbinder, MD, Bridge HIV has been conducting HIV and STI preventive vaccine studies, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) studies (including oral and injectable medications), and other studies of biomedical HIV prevention strategies since the early days of the epidemic. The Bridge HIV Investigators are global leaders in HIV vaccine and prevention science, epidemiology of HIV infection, HIV medication adherence, combination HIV prevention strategies, and HIV research training methods. Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Research Director, the Mobile Medical Van Driver & Outreach Assistant will safely transport and operate a mobile medical van to community locations throughout San Francisco while assisting clinical staff with outreach, participant engagement, and clinic flow. The Driver will also check on the status of the van regularly and ensure all parts and components are functioning and vehicle maintenance is up to date.
This is a temporary, on-call, grant-funded, and non-benefitted position. Employment is provided by Heluna Health.
The schedule is variable based on outreach and clinic needs. Typical hours range from 0–10 hours per week. Evening or occasional weekend shifts may be required.
Pay Rate: $38.03 per hour
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Safely drive and operate the mobile medical van to scheduled outreach and clinic locations throughout San Francisco and greater Bay Area.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns.
- Assist with setting up and breaking down the mobile clinic.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming clinical environment.
- Support participant check-in and clinic flow under the direction of clinical staff.
- Assist with community outreach and engagement activities.
- Load and unload outreach and clinical supplies.
- Coordinate with clinical staff regarding daily schedules and logistics.
- Follow all Heluna Health safety policies and confidentiality requirements
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED)
Education/Experience
- Ability to safely operate a large vehicle (experience driving vans, shuttle buses, RVs, or commercial vehicles preferred).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and flexible.
- Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of neighborhood settings.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with moving supplies and equipment.
Certificates/Licenses/Clearances
- Valid California driver's license with an excellent driving record.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS (PREFERRED)
Education/Experience
- Experience working with people experiencing homelessness, people who use drugs, LGBTQ+ communities, or other underserved populations.
- Experience in outreach, community health, harm reduction, social services, or public health.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
