We're looking for a
Maintenance Assistant to help maintain the grounds, building, and equipment in our senior living community. You'll play an important role in ensuring everything stays in excellent condition so our residents can live comfortably and safely every day.
What You'll Do:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on the facility, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plastering, mechanical systems, and more.
- Maintain the grounds, parking areas, driveways, and outdoor spaces by mowing, trimming, sweeping, policing litter, and keeping them neat and attractive.
- Replace burned-out light bulbs (including exit lights and call lights) and clean windows and screens as needed.
- Service heating and cooling systems according to manufacturer guidelines and facility procedures.
- Follow daily maintenance schedules and complete assigned tasks for your shift.
- Coordinate with nursing staff when working in resident living areas.
- Report any equipment malfunctions, breakdowns, or safety issues to your supervisor promptly.
- Assist with moving resident belongings when necessary and inform residents courteously.
- Ensure maintenance supplies are stocked and equipment is cleaned and stored properly at the end of each shift.
- Follow all established safety precautions when using tools and equipment.
- Help lift heavy equipment or supplies when needed.
- Attend departmental meetings and in-service trainings as required.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of resident information and report any privacy concerns immediately.
What You Bring:
- Minimum 10th grade education (or equivalent)
- Previous maintenance, groundskeeping, or handyman experience is a plus
- Ability to follow instructions, work independently when needed, and accept constructive feedback
- Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to handle a variety of tasks
- Good communication skills — able to interact tactfully with staff, residents, families, and visitors
- Basic math skills (working with fractions, percentages, ratios, etc.)
- A strong focus on safety and attention to detail
- Willingness to learn new methods and incorporate them into daily work
- Reliable, positive attitude and a team-player mindset
Physical Requirements:
This is an active, hands-on position. You'll need to stand, walk, bend, lift, push, and pull. You must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and assist with heavier items when needed. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities. You may be asked to assist in resident evacuation during emergencies.
