Compensation:

Hourly Rates

• First 18 months: $24.52

• Last 6 Months: $30.01

Additional Financial Compensation

• The LA Phil contributes 1% of gross compensation to your 401(k) Plan, in addition to your wages
• WDP Stagehands receive an amount equal to four percent (4%) of their gross earnings as vacation pay (paid weekly)
• Eligible for the IATSE-funded Health & Welfare Plan
• Eligible for the IATSE-funded Pension Plan

• 24 hours per week (minimum)

• 47 work weeks per year (minimum)

About the Beckmen YOLA Center

The 25, 000-square-foot Judith and Thomas L. Beckmen YOLA Center serves as the home of YOLA's fifth site in Inglewood as well as providing a gathering place for students from existing and future YOLA sites. In addition to its youth programming, the Beckmen YOLA Center will also be a space for music educators from across the U.S. and around the world to collaborate and learn. It will be a cultural resource for the people of Inglewood, and act as the focal point of the LA Phil's commitment to community engagement in the area. The project, which has emerged out of a close collaboration between of the City of Inglewood, architect Frank Gehry, and LA Phil Music & outgoing Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel, is made possible by a leadership gift from Judith and Thomas L. Beckmen.

YOLA provides transformational and equitable access to music education for young people from historically marginalized communities, to support their personal development, their communities, and beyond.

Workforce Development Program (WDP)

The Los Angeles Philharmonic and YOLA, in partnership with IATSE Local 33, offer the Workforce Development Program (WDP) to support early-career and aspiring stage technicians in building sustainable careers in stagecraft. The program is designed to reduce barriers to union entry while providing paid, hands-on experience primarily at the Beckmen YOLA Center (BYC). Participants gain on-the-job technical training, access to industry-recognized trainings and certifications, and structured professional development focused on workplace readiness, networking, and career planning.

WDP supports the full technical production needs of YOLA and the Learning Department programs and events, including concerts, rehearsals, recordings, festivals, and community events. Participants develop skills across staging, audio, video, lighting, projection, and stage operations, and regularly work alongside IATSE Local 33 stagehands-building technical expertise while forming professional industry connections. After an initial training period, participants become eligible to accept approved union calls, expanding access to real-world work opportunities while maintaining program commitments.

Professionalism is treated as an essential skill within WDP, alongside technical training. Strong communication, reliability, and collaboration are critical to working effectively in fast-paced production environments. By integrating professional skills development into daily work, the program reflects real industry expectations and prepares participants to succeed as members of IATSE Local 33 and beyond.

Scope of Work

Audio, Video & Lighting

• Develop proficiency in audio networking and both digital and analog signal routing.
• Operate digital audio consoles, live video switchers, and lighting control systems.
• Execute pre-show setup (including console configuration and system checks), soundchecks, live cue execution, FOH/monitor mixing, and post-show teardown.
• Perform routine maintenance as scheduled by the Lead Stage Technician.
• Assist with recording and live streaming of performances in Edgerton Hall.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external clients to produce and engineer live events.
• Create clear, professional stage plots and input lists.
• Perform maintenance and repair of audio, lighting, and stage equipment.
• Safely rig, hang, and focus lighting fixtures on overhead grid systems.
• Solder, terminate, and repair audio cabling.
• Work in environments with moderate to high sound pressure levels.

Stagecraft & Props

• Perform load-in and load-out of backline, production equipment, and rentals.
• Install and manage cabling infrastructure; support audio and lighting teams as directed.
• Ensure performers and clients have fully functional, show-ready equipment.
• Safely operate retractable seating systems and movable partition walls.
• Inspect and assess equipment condition following events, documenting any damage.
• Lift and transport equipment up to 75 lbs.

Teamwork & Communication

• Communicate professionally with clients and partners throughout pre-production, events, and post-event follow-up.
• Collaborate effectively with technical teams to execute complex setups and live performances under time-sensitive conditions.
• Maintain professionalism and composure during high-pressure or stressful situations, supporting a positive, solution-focused team environment.

Eligibility

• Eligible to pursue membership in IATSE Local 33 Stagehands Union (after completion of the probationary period).
• Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. safely.
• Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate show and rehearsal schedules.
• Interest in building a career in technical arts, including stagecraft, lighting, audio/visual engineering, stage management, or recording engineering.
• Prior experience in technical arts is not required; a willingness and enthusiasm to learn are essential.
• Residents of Inglewood and surrounding areas are strongly encouraged to apply.
