Johnson and Johnson MedTech is recruiting a Technical Director (Fellow) for Surgical Visualization. This position is based out of Santa Clara, CA.

The Technical Director of Surgical Visualization will guide the design, functionality, and optimization of endoscopes and related surgical visualization instrumentation. You will be responsible for defining technical needs, assessing image quality, and evaluating customer needs and opportunities. You will also lead and collaborate with internal cross-functional teams and external technology companies to execute research, feasibility, source new technologies on the mission to transform imaging and visualization capabilities and new product development across the entire J& J MedTech portfolio of businesses.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serves as a key technical leader and primary technical resource in surgical visualization field. Provide expert guidance on the design, functionality, and optimization of endoscopes and related surgical visualization instruments.
  • Define technical needs, filter, and select external technologies.
  • Define, formulate methodologies for assessing image quality and other performance metrics for visualization products.
  • Conduct thorough research and stay abreast of advancements in surgical visualization technology and industry standards.
  • Evaluate customer needs and opportunities, support defining product and technology roadmaps, and find internal or external potential technology solutions.
  • Influence internal cross-functional teams in collaboration with external technology companies to execute research, feasibility, and product development efforts in imaging and visualization.
  • Define, establish, and lead internal and external feasibility programs to drive new opportunities into product development.
  • Proficient analytical abilities coupled with the capacity to effectively collaborate with highly technical team members on targeted tasks in the field of surgical visualization.
  • Collaborate with the broader MedTech Surgery community to drive innovation, technical capability building and learnings across R& D group s
  • A Master's degree in the mechanical, electrical, optical, biomedical, or related engineering field
  • 12 years of experience in related Research and Development with a consistent track record of accomplishment
  • Experience in the design and commercialization within medical devices or other regulated industries
  • Experience in providing technical guidance, mentoring junior engineers, and leading projects or initiatives.
  • Proven ability to deliver External/Internal Publications (peer-reviewed) and develop Intellectual Property/Patents
  • Demonstrated experience with evaluation, selection, and management of external technology partners
  • Demonstrated ability to work across functional and business unit boundaries, and influence without direct authority
  • Ability to travel up to 10% travel, both international and domestic
Preferred experiences:
  • Advanced technical degree (Ph.D.)
  • Experience with design and development and launch of visualization/imaging technologies, and with surgical capital equipment and procedures
  • Extensive knowledge of the latest technologies and trends in surgical visualization technologies such as endoscopes and laparoscopes, artificial intelligence, and surgical procedures.
  • Understanding of surgery, surgical procedures, and the use of visualization in surgery
This position's anticipated base pay range in the San Francisco Bay area is $193, 000 to $312, 110.
