Join us in shaping the future of healthcare through innovative robotic solutions!
The internships based in Santa Clara, California offer an exciting opportunity for students interested in robotics, system integration, clinical applications, and engineering. Interns will work on a variety of projects to support the development of next-generation surgical robotic platforms that improve patient outcomes worldwide.

About the Role

As an intern within Robotics Systems Integration & Systems Engineering, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to contribute to the design, development, testing, and validation of complex robotic systems used in healthcare. Your work may involve software development, hardware integration, clinical workflow analysis, or system validation, depending on project needs.

Note: This posting is hiring for 2 different focus areas. Systems Engineering and Systems Integration. Interns may be assigned to roles focused on either 2 focus areas, or a combination thereof.

These roles primarily focus on system-level tasks, including hardware-software interface, system calibration, troubleshooting, validation, and clinical workflow support. While programming skills are essential, the role is not centered on core software architecture, algorithm development, or software design; those are typically the focus of a dedicated Software Engineering internship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop control algorithms, perception systems, and AI/ML models for robotic platforms.

  • Support system/subsystem integration, troubleshooting, and calibration across hardware and software components.

  • Support system/subsystem-level robotic integration across multi-functional subject areas.

  • Identify, root cause, and resolve novel issues that arise across R& D systems by working across mechanical, electrical, software and robotic controls.

  • Design and execute tests for system performance, safety, and clinical relevance, including calibration, characterization, and validation.

  • Characterize and de-risk the design from prototype to subsystem level, analyze test results, and provide meaningful insights or conclusions.

  • Support development of test methods and fixtures for system/subsystem integration, testing, and calibration.

  • Collaborate to understand user needs, develop workflows, and identify clinical hazards with proposed mitigations.

  • Support clinical and human factors objectives to test new features in simulation and implement in labs.

  • Contribute to coding, simulation, and validation efforts related to AI/ML, computer vision, and robotic control.

  • Document workflows, test procedures, and system integration processes.

  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities may be tailored or specialized based on the specific project, team, or role within this internship track.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university or college program throughout the internship duration (not necessarily taking classes). Pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s or PhD degree.

  • University student status: Undergrad Junior or higher. Master’s and PhD levels also considered for advanced areas.

  • Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) and during the hours agreed upon with the hiring manager.

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 reflective of all coursework

  • Commitment to June 1 – August 21, 2026, or June 22 – September 4, 2026, term dates to align with cohort

  • Target majors include Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, and Systems Engineering or closely related field.

Preferred

  • Strong programming skills in C+ + , Python, or similar languages.

  • Hands-on experience with hardware-software integration, system calibration, troubleshooting, or validation.

  • Basic understanding of electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and system design.

  • Knowledge of AI/ML, computer vision, simulation, or real-time operating systems.

  • Experience with hardware-software co-design, calibration, and validation.

  • Passion for healthcare innovation and improving patient outcomes.

  • Experience partitioning and decomposing complex engineering problems into solvable problems.

  • Understanding engineering concepts such as system design, implementation, testing, and maintenance with hands-on robotics systems experience is a plus

  • Permanent US work authorization without the need for sponsorship now, or in the future (The company does not provide sponsorship for employment visa status. Students currently in the country on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT require future sponsorship).

Why Join Us?

  • Contribute to impactful projects that enhance surgical care and patient safety.

  • Gain broad exposure across robotics, AI/ML, system integration, and clinical workflows.

  • Collaborate with industry-leading experts from engineering, clinical, and research disciplines.

  • Thrive in a diverse, inclusive, and growth-focused environment.

  • Mentorship opportunities and professional development programs.
