Electrical Designer - Onsite Team in Benicia, CA

We are seeking an Electrical Designer to join our onsite team in Benicia, CA. This full-time, site-based role offers competitive compensation and benefits, including a 401K match, and provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working closely with senior staff. Reporting to the Onsite Program Lead and working under the direction of the Lead Electrical Designer, you will be required to be onsite Monday through Friday, with the option of an approved alternative schedule.

Compensation: $60-85 per hour, depending on skills, experience, and qualifications.

In this role, you will support multi-disciplinary engineering and project teams by preparing and revising detailed drawings using Computer-Aided Drafting Systems (CAD). You will collaborate with clients and Eichleay teams to develop electrical designs, layouts, and system components, ensuring alignment with technical specifications and project/site requirements.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Electrical Design Requirements:

  • Develop electrical design packages for refinery electrical systems that meet client and site standards.
  • Collaborate with various disciplines to determine scope for refinery process systems up to 480V and 5kV motor control circuits, meeting electrical engineering and maintenance expectations. Provide field construction support as required.
  • Design 120V to 35kV power distribution systems with limited engineering guidance.
  • Work with engineering to develop basis of design packages and support engineering studies.
  • Understand site processes and procedures to provide design support at all project phases, from feasibility scoping to as built.

Maintenance Support Requirements:

  • Provide design support for maintenance department projects as assigned.
  • Conduct field walks to verify field status and as-built conditions.

Turnaround Support:

  • Develop electrical design packages for Capital and Turnaround projects.
  • Support construction-generated RFIs requiring design support in a turnaround environment.

Job Requirements:

  • 5+ years of related work experience in refining and/or heavy industrial locations.
  • Proficiency in utilizing AutoCAD, Excel, and Word to create comprehensive construction packages for field electrical work, including detailed work summaries, equipment quotes for procurement, drawings, data sheets, nameplate schedules, and other essential documentation.
  • Knowledge and ability in reading and drawing schematics, grounding, area classification drawings, power distribution, and area lighting design.
  • Working knowledge of NEC codes and ability to calculate wire fills and conduit routing.
  • Previous experience producing project estimates is desired.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA, ISA, IEEE, API, and OSHA Standards.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or scientific discipline; or specialized courses in design, electronics, electrical; or Certificate from an Electrical Technical School or equivalent.
  • Ability to be badged for PSM-governed facilities, requiring a TWIC card and in-depth drug screening.
  • Ability to evaluate equipment in the field, including climbing ladders and flights of stairs.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • While performing duties of this job, you may occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear (including site-based communication equipment), distinguish between various colors, hear safety tones/notifications, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools, temperature, or controls.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Overtime may be necessary as workload dictates, including weekdays, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Job duties will generally be performed at a client’s office, client site, production facility, or industrial/construction job site. Day-to-day job direction will typically be led by our client’s designated project leader.
  • Conditions and/or schedule will vary at each client location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
  • Candidates will be required to follow our clients' site-based rules and protocols regarding infectious diseases.
