Description:
The County of Riverside's Human Resources Temporary Assignment Program (TAP) seeks to fill a Temporary Code Enforcement Aide position to support the Code Enforcement Department in Riverside.
The position supports the Code Enforcement Department and includes a mix of clerical and field-based responsibilities. The role involves providing excellent customer service, communicating with the public and department staff, and assisting with a variety of day-to-day departmental activities.
The selected candidate will help maintain records, compile documents and investigative reports, assist with land use and code enforcement processes, and use computerized systems and standard office equipment to support department operations. This position is a great fit for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple tasks.
This position requires experience performing clerical or administrative support work in a professional office environment and will be comfortable working in a fast-paced setting while supporting the department's daily operations.
Work schedule: Monday - Friday 8am - 4: 30pm

TAP Benefits: https: //rc-hr.com/files/users/user116/COR_2026_TAP_Guide_FINAL.pdf• Perform complex clerical work requiring the application of code enforcement and community improvement policies and procedures, laws and specialized terminology.
• Prepare and process code enforcement complaints which require the review of complex source material and a thorough familiarity with land use and building policies, procedures, terminology, and various applicable laws in order to open and prepare case files for investigation.
• Give information to the public or agency representatives in situations where judgment and interpretation of departmental policies and regulations are required.
• Review a variety of case file material, reports, forms, and records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable ordinances.
• Answer questions involving searching for and summarizing technical land use, zoning, building, or housing code data, laws, policies, or procedures; answer questions regarding the Community Improvement Program and activities.
• Perform routine non-contact investigations.
• Compile a variety of documents and investigative reports which require locating sources of information, devising forms to secure the data and determining proper format for finished documents; design or revise office forms.
• Set up and maintain complex code enforcement filing and/or Community Improvement Program systems.
• Initiate replies to routine correspondence; compose correspondence, simple investigative reports and other materials requiring the application of code enforcement and/or subject matter knowledge and discrimination in the selection of data; may provide technical guidance to other clerical staff; prepare and revise written procedures.
• Type a wide variety of complex code enforcement and/or community improvement materials related to the opening and maintenance of case files, utilizing information processing equipment; develop automated files and maintain the storage medium; develop and revise standardized formats for documents for code enforcement and/or Community Improvement Program.
• Operate computerized and standard office equipment; isolate and resolve equipment and procedural problems; perform backup of systems and maintain archived record library and case reference logs; serve as technical expert on the operation of information processing equipment.Experience: Two years of clerical experience. (Completion of 30 quarter units or 45 semester units from an accredited college or university in administration of justice, land use, planning, building and safety, civil engineering, zoning, public administration, public relations, social science, marketing, education, or a closely related field may substitute for one year of the required experience.)
Knowledge of: The principles, methods and equipment used in information processing; correct English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, format, and style; office procedures, including preparing correspondence and reports, filing and operating standard office equipment.
Ability to: Understand the capabilities and applications of information processing equipment; consider the requirements of the Code Enforcement Department; proof and correct documents into acceptable final form; store and retrieve a variety of documents and subdocuments; meet departmental production and accuracy standards; learn to read and interpret maps, property descriptions and related documents; learn, understand, apply, and explain regulations and policies relating to building, housing codes, land use and zoning, and community improvement programs; compile information from various sources; communicate effectively; deal tactfully and courteously with the public; establish and maintain effective working relationships.Other Requirements
License: Possession of a valid California Driver's License may be required.
Skills: Type 25 net words per minute is required.
Test: All candidates will be required to take a typing test prior to being considered for any Code Enforcement Aide position.
