Job Description
County of Riverside is hiring a MAINTENANCE & CONSTRUCTION WORKER in Riverside, CA. This is a full-time position.
The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County. A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.
PLEASE NOTE: Applicants invited to interview will be required to submit, prior to the date of the interview, a copy of their DMV Driving Report, generated within the last 30 days.
The County of Riverside Transportation Department has an opportunity for a Maintenance and Construction Worker (MCW) position, located throughout Riverside County.
The selected candidates for the Maintenance and Construction Worker positions will perform construction work or field maintenance work (e.g., construct, maintain and repair roads by patching h oles with asphalt and/or concrete; construct and maintain fencing, flood control channel walls, levees and culverts; c lear fencing, roads, flood control channel walls, levees, culverts and other facilities of storm debris and damage). The operation of light trucks and related construction equipment is required.
A 4/10 work schedule which may include overtime and occasional weekends.

Meet the Team!
The Transportation Department is responsible for planning, designing, funding, building, operating and maintaining all roads, bridges, and transportation facilities within the unincorporated County territory.• Perform recycling work at refuse disposal sites: l oad/unload waste tires at illegal dump sites at community cleanups; c ollect, package and ship electronic waste for recycling; collect, handle and store household antifreeze, batteries, motor oil and paints from landfill customers.
• Spray, cut and clear brush/weeds.
• Use a variety of hand and power tools, mowers and other light motorized equipment.
• Perform traffic direction, set up and maintain traffic signs at refuse disposal sites.
• Perform graffiti abatement in unincorporated areas of Riverside County.
• Construct, maintain and repair roads by patching h oles with asphalt and/or concrete.
• Construct and maintain fencing, flood control channel walls, levees and culverts.
• C lear fencing, roads, flood control channel walls, levees, culverts and other facilities of storm debris and damage.Experience
One year of performing construction work or field maintenance work (e.g., roads, flood control facilities, refuse sites, recycling facilities, public works projects or closely related work) which required operation of light trucks and related construction equipment.
Other Requirements
Valid California Driver License - Class A or B

The majority of this position will entail working outdoors in inclement weather conditions (rain, sleet, wind and Summer temperatures exceeding 115 degrees Fahrenheit).
Department of Transportation
For those positions designated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) as safety-sensitive, applicants are required to complete a DOT mandated alcohol and drug-screening. (A positive test or refusal to test during the past two years will disqualify an applicant from consideration for County employment). Reference checks from former DOT regulated employers are also required. Applicants must submit a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving record prior to hire.
Employees in safety-sensitive positions are subject to DOT alcohol/drug testing in the following situations: random, reasonable suspicion/cause, return-to-duty, and post-accident.
Knowledge Of
The operation and maintenance of trucks and light motorized equipment; equipment and traffic safety procedures; the tools and materials commonly used in field maintenance, recycling, or construction work.
Ability To
Safely operate trucks and light motorized equipment; perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance or construction tasks; operate power saws, chippers, and a variety of hand tools; follow oral and written instructions.Application Status
