JOB DESCRIPTION

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • The Inland Marine Vice President will lead a team of Marine underwriters in the Pacific North and South regions who collectively underwrite Builders Risk and other Inland Marine products for both Major Accounts and Commercial Insurance clients.
  • The Vice President will provide oversight of the Major and CI Inland Marine portfolios for the Pacific North and Pacific South regions, while underwriting some individual risks and providing subject matter expertise and handling referrals within their authority. They will also provide subject matter expertise by demonstrating understanding the following:
  • Fundamentals of coverage, terms and conditions. Ability to offer coverage, terms and conditions which generate a profit for the Company while meeting the needs of the customer. Deep understanding of builders risk business.
  • Risk Assessment. Ability to identify risk exposures, special or common hazards, and appropriate controls. Ability to select risk based on exposure and risk analysis. Ability to analyze claims and quantify losses.
  • Financial proficiency. Understanding of financial statements and ratios used in risk analysis. Understanding of insurance financial fundamentals; impact of underwriting decisions on company assets.
  • Actuarial fundamentals. Ability to understand loss trends and ratemaking. Ability to quantify risk based on experience history and forecasting methods.
  • Marketing and communications. Ability to develop a regional marketing strategy, and to sell and negotiate to achieve bottom line profitability for the Company. Ability to make presentations and communicate articulately. Ability to base communications on strategic thinking.
  • Systems and programs. Ability to use systems and software programs needed to conduct daily business.

DUTIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Achieve financial goals related to new business production, renewal retention and rate.
  • Ensure regional underwriting integrity and profitability.
  • Manage regional authority inclusive of underwriting referrals from underwriters as well as referrals through Major and CI Home Office.
  • Supervise, develop, and train employees, including weekly office hours and one-on-one meetings with direct reports.
  • Manage agent and producer relationships.
  • Major Account forecasting for the region(s).
  • Coordinating the CI target, forecast and renewals in jeopardy reporting.
  • Tracking progress to Plan on new business and GWP for Major and CI for the Pacific North and South regions.
  • In collaboration with the Marine SVP, manage stakeholder relations within the region, including with CI Regional Leaders, Branch Managers, CI Managers, Major Account Segment Leaders, REO's and field operations.
