Job Summary

Under general supervision, independently provides legal support to TriWest attorneys and supervises Paralegal and Legal Assistant staff in the Office of General Counsel. Manage various business aspects of the Legal department including coordinating assignments and workflow for the paralegal services team, coordinating and/or providing training, leading matter management, tracking invoices, inter- and intra-department communications, and coordinating with the Legal Operations team on process efficiency projects. Conducts research, drafts memoranda, and legal and business communications. Supports contract operations by assisting the contract drafting and recordkeeping processes. Responds to and maintains documents related to subpoenas, subrogation, requests for medical records and other TriWest documents, UCC liens, and garnishments.

Education & Experience

Required:

• Paralegal certificate and/or bachelor's degree in legal studies, business administration or similar study or equivalent experience
• 5+ years legal administration, legal operations, or paralegal experience, including transactions/contract administration and legal research, or equivalent background
• 5+ years of experience with corporate laws and regulations
• U.S. Citizen
• Must be able to receive a favorable Interim and adjudicated final Department of Defense (DoD) background investigation
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Experienced in organizing and managing a corporate legal department
• 3+ years of experience in drafting and managing contracts
• At least one year of experience as a supervisor or manager of people

Preferred:

• Healthcare industry experience
• Successfully passed AZ Certified Legal Document Preparer Exam

Key Responsibilities

• Supervises, monitors work and delegates tasks of legal administrative/paraprofessional staff. Hires, trains, coaches, manages and develops staff.
• Operations management: strategic and tactical planning, quality control, assigns paraprofessional support to specific matters, coordination of events and workflow, monitor invoices. Implements and maintains department procedures and systems.
• Assists in analyzing and reporting on paralegal/legal assistant time to assess workload, productivity, and ability to meet ongoing business needs.
• Has responsibility for correspondence and telephone contact related to TriWest business. Interacts with all TriWest departments, TriWest field staff, contractors and customers.
• Acts as Legal Department liaison as required. Monitors documents delivered to Legal Department
• Attends meetings as assigned by General Counsel.
• Manages department data and records organization and storage, electronic corporate documents and contract management, supports the management of security access to confidential records.
• Assists in the editing of materials in compliance with federal and state laws, rules and regulations. Coordinates with relevant departments to assure accuracy of contents.

• Assists General Counsel with due diligence for various matters including determining facts surrounding legal problems and obtaining information regarding contracts or other matters.
• Researches, coordinates and prepares responses to requests from state, local and federal regulatory agencies under general supervision of corporate counsel.
• Manages the preparation of presentations and reports for Board of Director and various corporate committees and meetings.
• Coordinates with Legal Operations Manager and project manager(s)/ePMO on projects and prepares related reports.
• Communications with General Counsel and/or Executive leadership regarding status of active matters.
• Contract management: prepares standard form agreements, prepares legal memoranda; amendments; consents; confidentiality agreements; professional services agreements.
• Performs other duties as necessary.
• Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Technical Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with contract management systems/databases (familiarity with Agiloft is a plus) and matter management.

• Works within a standard office environment, with minimal travel
• Extensive computer work with prolonged periods of sitting
