Description:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with development, organization and implementation of a manufacturing strategy which will lead to a continual improvement of processes, knowledge, and skills, and which will consider the following:
- Customer’s present & future requirements
- Technology, present and development opportunities
- Work organization & structure
- Employee skills, training, performance, safety & motivation
- Equipment & tooling requirements
- Establishes standard operating procedures, manufacturing practices, and cost standards for achieving high quality products within a competitive efficiency/cost requirement.
- Supervises and acts as the point of contact for all shop supervisors.
- Works closely with shop supervisors to plan, schedule, and assign job projects to employees.
- Provides technical leadership for fabrication procedures and methods to shop supervisors, employees, conferring with Engineering, Quality and other department heads as necessary.
- When needed blueprints are proofread by shop supervisors prior to being submitted to customer.
- Reviews repair and maintenance reports on all machinery and equipment to maintenance department to assure availability and safety of operation.
- Coordinates to make personnel hiring decisions and is responsible for personnel performance evaluations, wage reviews, disciplinary actions, and vacation scheduling, keeping proper written/electronic records
- Assures safety within all shops and ensures proper use of all applicable shop equipment.
- Responsible for enhancing teams’ safety behavior, improving safety metrics, and fostering a strong safety culture.
- Attends scheduled Production, Planning, Safety, and other meetings as required
- Ensures accurate reporting of labor and materials in IFS (Industrial and Financial Systems).
EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE:
- Must be willing and able to use a computer as well as proficient with Microsoft Office suite and Internal systems for payroll and labor management
- Strong familiarity with fabrication equipment processes and techniques
- Has knowledge of metal alloys and properties and could apply that understanding to projects and worker abilities
- Ability to pass and maintain a 2/3G open root GMAW/ FCAW certification
- Understands blueprints and part layouts
- High mechanical aptitude and excellent math skills
ROLE REQUIREMENTS:
- At least three (3) years of effective supervisory experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in fabrication including operation of all necessary machinery, equipment, and tools.
- Good manual dexterity, good eye/hand coordination. Close and distant vision, depth perception and ability to focus, required
- Thorough and attentive to detail in all job tasks and proactive toward continuous improvement and quality workmanship
- Ability to analyze problems and find effective solutions
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work with all types of people and operate effectively in a team setting
- Ability to teach, instruct and demonstrate to other personnel and serve as a good mentor, coach, and role model to their team members
- Ability to organize and delegate
- Ability to meet predefined deadlines while effectively communicating to PM’s, Quality team members and other stakeholders
ENVIRONMENT/HEALTH/SAFETY (EHS) REQUIREMENTS:
- Responsible for addressing, reporting, and guiding injured employee on work related injuries
- Must report Accidents and incidents via EHS portal within 24 hours of the incident or accident
- Must complete and submit Hazard Recognition activities via EHS portal
- Must assist with the Safety training requirement for employees under his or her supervision
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Manufacturing environment: May be exposed to loud noises, changing temperatures, machinery with moving parts and exotic materials
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sitting, standing, kneeling, laying, stooping, crawling, reaching, pulling
- Handling and moving objects- Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials
- Ability to lift to 50lbs
ITAR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere to and abide by all ITAR-specific job standards and training. Protect and properly safeguard ITAR-sensitive information and work product; ensure dissemination or disclosure of and access to “protected data” occurs only with those trained and approved for exposure to ITAR content
- IMMEDIATELY notify Supervisor/Manager, Human Resources, Legal (email: compliance@samuel.com) or the Samuel Ethics Alert Hotline of known or suspected unauthorized disclosure, release of or access to protected ITAR content
