Your Impact
This mid- level position on Samuel Automation’s Manufacturing team, is responsible for wiring electrical systems, electronic components and installing hardware for custom automated equipment. This position relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Assemble and mount control panels and electrical components and wire control panels and automated machinery in accordance with customer requirements and external (CSA, ESA, OSHA), company, and departmental standards.
• Complete control cabinet layout, wiring, and cabinet modifications while maintaining red-line electrical drawings for changes made during wiring and debugging.
• Perform in-house electrical troubleshooting, technical problem solving, and service support to resolve build and integration issues efficiently.
• Verify purchased components are correct for the build and maintain inventory control and usage of electrical parts.
• Participate in equipment tear-down, shipment, installation, and commissioning at customer sites, providing training as required and completing daily site reports.
• At times, fulfill a lead role on projects by assigning daily tasks, mentoring new hires and apprentices, and contributing to team updates. Provide feedback on skills, behavior, and safe work practices for electrical apprentices.
• Report workmanship or design concerns to the Manufacturing Manager and work collaboratively with the team to continuously improve manufacturing standards.
• Maintain a tidy, organized workspace and act as a professional ambassador at customer sites, ensuring efficient and high-quality installations.
• Work safely and efficiently in accordance with company Health and Safety policies, performing all duties in a timely manner
You’ll Be Great At
• Bringing at least 2 years of experience wiring custom automated machines, including practical experience wiring panels and automated machinery.
• Reading and interpreting electrical schematic drawings, mechanical drawings, and solid models with accuracy and confidence.
• Demonstrating strong electrical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in both build and service environments.
• Working comfortably with computers and related software to support documentation, troubleshooting, and reporting.
• Communicating effectively in English, with the ability to read, analyze, and interpret written and verbal instructions clearly.
• Thriving in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment while maintaining a positive attitude and consistent contribution to assigned projects.
• Collaborating effectively within a team setting and maintaining a valid driver’s license to support customer site work as required.
Level of Autonomy and Authority
• Receive instructions on specific assignments and project requirements.
• Work independently to complete the wiring of individual panels or machines in accordance with electrical drawings and established standards.
• Refer complex circuits, or unusual issues to higher authority for guidance and review.
• Provide guidance to Apprentices regarding assigned tasks and day-to-day work activities.
• Take direction from the Manufacturing Manager while exercising sound judgment in completing assigned responsibilities.
Key Requirements
• Certificate as an Industrial Electrician, Construction/Maintenance Electrician, or equivalent relevant work experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and multimeters
• Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
• Must be capable of working in a team environment and be able to maintain a positive attitude and consistent contribution to the projects assigned
• Ability to travel internationally up to 10% of the time
Working conditions: Manufacturing environment: May be exposed to loud noises, changing temperatures, machinery with moving parts, and exotic materials.
Equipment/machinery used: multi-Meter, hand tools, power tools, computer, calculator, measurement tools, crane, fork truck, and pallet-jack.
Physical requirements: Sitting, standing, kneeling, laying, stooping, crawling, reaching, pulling, lifting up to 50lbs regularly and 75lbs occasionally, typing, visual acuity, occasional travel (up to 25%) for extended periods including overnight and weekends.
