Position Summary:

The full-time Externship Evaluator will be working closely with students in the Veterinary Academy while they are performing their required clinical externships. They will provide one-on-one support to students, assist in course instruction/skill evaluation, student mentorship, and provide student feedback as directed by the Clinical Coordinator and the department manager. The Externship Evaluator will work alongside the Veterinary Academy externship team in ensuring student success, as well as department objectives are met.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Objectively and accurately evaluate externship (clinical) skills according to established grading rubric and guidelines
  • Provide one–on–one support to externship students through distance education technologies, including but not limited to email, tickets, feedback files, phones, and scheduled appointments.
  • Provide clear and effective feedback to students within established time frames
  • Respond to student questions in a timely manner
  • Complete the necessary steps to ensure that grades are properly recorded with the school
  • Provide regular updates to the Clinical Coordinator regarding student progress
  • Develop ways to improve student retention based on review of persistence and progression data
  • Assist in the onboarding and training of externship team members
  • Provide support and guidance to fellow externship evaluators
  • Attend and participate in department meetings as scheduled
  • Participate in other externship support activities as directed by the Academic Team Lead and Program Director

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Must possess an Associate Degree from an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technician Program and must be a Credentialed (licensed/registered) Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, CVT). License must be current and in good standing with state licensing board and must be renewed yearly.
  • Minimum of 2 years working as a Credentialed Veterinary Technician is required. Prior teaching experience preferred.
  • Excellent computer and time management skills
  • Experience with online learning preferred
  • Excellent grasp of how technology can be applied to new methods of instruction
  • Strong written communicator with the ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • Ability to think quickly, communicate effectively and efficiently, and enjoy being part of a team.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture
