In this role, you will be responsible for leading and supporting the planning and execution of Outdoor Adventure excursions and events, supervise the guide team and work with the Outdoor Adventures Manager to support the growth of the overall program.

The ideal candidate is passionate about the outdoors and can communicate a robust knowledge of the area’s fauna, wildlife, geology, terrain, environment, and local area history. A minimum of 1-5 years of previous experience guiding groups is required. A minimum of 1-5 years of experience in a luxury hospitality environment and working in an office setting or with various computer programs is preferred.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with no traffic violations within the last 3 years.
  • Must obtain Wilderness First Aid – First Responder, and Leave No Trace Level I certifications, within 6 months of employment.

JOB DETAILS

Responsibilities:

  • Will be a leading presence on-site in all outdoor adventures activities.
  • Trip Planning & Execution:

o Create detailed Outdoor Adventures Trip Plans for each program by researching activities, locations, routes, reservations, gear lists, food lists, transportation, costs, permits and environmental impact.

o Enhance programming with educational, engaging and fun content.

o Be trip lead or trip assistant on most Outdoor Adventures programs.

o Clean and organize storage facilities, equipment and company vehicles.

o Facilitate member billing process

o Complete event reports

  • Guide Supervision and Training:

o Create and publish a schedule for guides.

o Create training materials and standard operating procedures.

o Coach teammates on Desert Mountain standards of service and professionalism to provide exceptional, unique, and memorable hospitality experiences.

o Train guides to be effective trip leads or assistants; ensuring they are well-versed on programs, routes, itineraries, etc.

o Be an expert in risk management, evaluate programs, and train guides for safety.

o Assist in hiring and training new Outdoor Adventures teammates.

  • Department Planning:

o Assist the Outdoor Adventures Manager in the strategic planning of the OA department.

o Responsible for planning and requesting operational supplies and equipment.

o Promote upcoming events

  • Miscellaneous:

o Produce high quality electronic communications, use various computer programs and complete ongoing day-to-day office tasks, including hosting and attending various meetings.

o Serve as an active team member within all departments of Sonoran, understanding how each department operates to help during peak times of business.

  • Other duties as assigned by Outdoor Adventures Manager.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • Ability to walk, hike, bike, and execute other activities for an extended period over multiple days.
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle – Frequently
  • Drive a 15-passanger company vehicle
  • Required to work in an outdoor working environment – Regularly.
  • Exposed to extreme temperatures and inclement weather, including but not limited to: rain, winds, heat, humidity, and cold temperatures – Regularly.
  • Required to lift, push, pull, move, and/or carry 15-35 pounds - Frequently.
  • Must be available to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
