Student Worker - Tutor

General Job Brief: Academic peer tutors serve ACU students by assisting with academic success strategies. The primary responsibility of a tutor is to support students to become more independent learners, persist in college, and reach their goals. Tutors provide individual and/or group tutoring to students across a broad range of courses based on their personal area of expertise. Tutors meet with students to clarify and review concepts taught in class, explain processes, and help students solve specific problems. This role also requires a comprehensive understanding of and commitment to the unique Christian mission and vision of ACU to Transform Culture with Truth, and the ability to advance that mission and vision through the performance of its duties, including person-to-person mentorship and discipleship. Primary Duties: Attend all scheduled tutoring appointmentsProvide subject-specific expertise to peers in individual and group tutoring contextsRecognize the different learning styles and student preferencesCreate a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students diverse cultures, language skills, andexperiencesUse active listening strategies to allow student to determine content and pace of tutoringUse listening and questioning strategies as the primary tutoring method to diagnose student needs and monitor progressEmploy feedback and reflection to improve practiceRecognize primary role is to help students become more confident, more successful, self-directed learnersBe direct and kind with students and possess good interpersonal communication skillsProvide direct assistance in the use of equipment, learning objects, and materials needed for student successMake appropriate referrals to other campus and community resources as needed Other Duties and Responsibilities: Communicate with the ACE Coordinator regarding any challenges, problems, or needs you may have as a tutorTrack tutoring sessions in digital logbookInput time worked into Paycom for compensation purposesConduct oneself with utmost integrity and professionalismCompleting other duties and tasks with utmost integrity and professionalism, as directed, and not necessarily mentioned in this description, will be expectedCommitment to the Universitys faith statement, mission, and purposes; and an active Christian faithComfort and familiarity with the practice of praying with and for others, including students, faculty, and fellow University staffThe ability to meaningfully support and encourage students, faculty, and staff from a biblical worldview perspective, using relevant and applicable references from the Old and New Testaments and orthodox Christian writingsDemonstrated alignment with and enthusiastic support for the Christian Mission and Core Commitments of the University, including signing the University's Statement of Faith and Core Commitments annually. Qualifications: Personal relationship with Jesus Christ as well as a commitment to ACU's Statement of Faith and Core valuesMust be currently enrolled as a student at ACUHave and maintain a cumulative and semester GPA of 3.5 or aboveReceived an A in the tutored course selected, and a course taken at the ACU is preferredPossess good interpersonal communication skillsBe available to work 5-10 hours per week in between 9 am and 9 pm Monday to Friday.
