The salary range(s) represents our good faith estimate for the role at this time.   • Manager of Uncertainty Response - Salary Range: $128, 950 - $167, 640
  • Supervisor of Uncertainty Response - Salary Range: $112, 240 - $145, 810

Join our team as the Manager or Supervisor of Uncertainty Response!

The Manager or Supervisor of Uncertainty Response leads a team of technical analysts and/or engineers responsible for identifying, analyzing, and mitigating uncertainty risks impacting Balancing Authority (BA) operations. This role ensures sufficient generation is committed across all time horizons to reliably meet load obligations. Through advanced studies and analytics, the Manager provides actionable recommendations that support real-time and forward-looking operational decisions, including Reliability Unit Commitment and Balancing functions.

This position plays a critical role in maintaining system reliability, influencing market design, and guiding organizational strategy related to uncertainty forecasting and response.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead & Develop Team: Manage and support a team of analysts/engineers, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and ensuring proper staffing and resources.
  • Ensure Reliable Operations: Oversee studies and analytics to ensure enough generation is available to meet demand across all time horizons.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the lead expert on uncertainty risk, providing guidance on operational decisions, policies, and standards.
  • Strategic Recommendations: Deliver insights and recommendations to support real-time and forward-looking reliability and market operations.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with internal teams, external partners, and industry groups; act as the primary point of contact for uncertainty-related issues.
  • Process & Policy Development: Establish and maintain operational procedures, influence market rules, and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Analyze trends, conduct post-event reviews, and improve processes to enhance system reliability.
  • Organizational Support: Assist with budgeting, special projects, and cross-functional coordination.

To be successful we're looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, business administration or related field (additional related experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement)
  • Manager - Ten (10) years of experience in electric utility operations or eight (8) years obtained in a responsible role directly involved with SPP Operations.
  • Supervisor - Six (6) years of experience in electric utility operations or obtained in a responsible role directly involved with SPP Operations.

Required:

  • In-depth knowledge of System Operations and NERC reliability standards and WECC regional standards
  • Working knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards, SPP Criteria, SPP Market Protocols, the SPP OATT and
  • SPP OATT Business Practices
  • Knowledgeable and conversant with operational tools such as Energy Management System, reporting tools and scheduling systems Strong interpersonal and team building skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work overtime, as needed, during adverse system conditions including extreme weather such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, extreme hot or cold, and other emergencies affecting the generation sufficiency of the SPP BA

Preferred

  • Advanced degree in related field of study
  • Knowledge/experience in SPP Markets, Balancing Authority, and System Operations
  • NERC Operator Certification

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of the workweek are Monday through Friday; 8: 00 a.m. to 5: 00 p.m. Working extended hours may be required.

Travel Requirement:

  • This position requires travel (approximately 20%)
