Job Description

The Arc of Central Alabama is hiring a Facilities Painter in Birmingham, AL. This is a full-time position.

The Facilities Painter performs skilled painting and surface-maintenance work across all organizational properties, including group homes, healthcare facilities, administrative buildings, and transit-related sites. This position ensures that all environments remain safe, clean, visually appealing, and compliant with regulatory and CARF standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare surfaces by scraping, sanding, patching, and priming prior to painting Apply paint, stain, varnish, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, or sprayers Perform interior and exterior painting of walls, ceilings, doors, trim, and equipment Repair drywall, plaster, and minor surface damage before painting Mix and match paints to achieve proper color and finish Assist with general maintenance tasks (light carpentry, caulking, sealing, etc.) Perform touch-up painting during unit turnovers in group homes or residential settings Maintain hallways, common areas, and high-traffic zones Support preventive maintenance programs for facility upkeep Assist with signage, striping, and specialty coatings as needed Follow OSHA, infection-control, and safety protocols (especially in healthcare settings) Properly handle, store, and dispose of paints and hazardous materials Use ladders, scaffolding, and lifts safely; maintain a clean and organized work environment Travel between multiple sites (group homes, clinics, offices) as assigned and respond to urgent or emergency repair needs Maintain inventory of supplies and request materials as needed Document completed work orders and maintenance activities Preferred IDD-Focused Responsibilities Maintain clean, freshly finished, and welcoming environments that support the dignity of persons served Complete group-home touch-ups and unit turnovers promptly to minimize disruption to residents Follow infection-control and safe-material-handling protocols in residential and healthcare settings Support accessibility and safety through proper signage, striping, and surface finishes Report environmental or safety concerns that could affect persons served or staff
