The Arc of Central Alabama is hiring a Community Waiver Coordinator in Birmingham, AL. This is a full-time position.
Description
The Community Waiver Coordinator supports the day-to-day administration of Community Waiver Program services for an assigned caseload of people served, ensuring services align with each person's Person-Centered Plan and meet ADMH Community Waiver Program requirements. This role coordinates documentation, scheduling, and communication among direct support staff, families, and support coordinators, and monitors service delivery for quality and compliance. The Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring people served receive consistent, person-centered support across residential, day, and community settings.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Coordinate implementation of Person-Centered Plans across residential, day, and community services for an assigned caseload.
• Monitor service documentation for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness, including service notes and data collection.
• Serve as a point of contact for families, guardians, and support coordinators regarding day-to-day service questions.
• Support scheduling and staffing coordination to ensure adequate, consistent coverage for people served.
• Track and follow up on action items from support planning meetings and reviews.
• Assist in preparing for ADMH audits, surveys, and CARF accreditation reviews.
• Identify and report critical incidents and any suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation per IPMS.
• Provide on-the-ground guidance to Direct Support Professionals on plan implementation and documentation standards.
• Monitor billing/utilization data for assigned caseload and flag discrepancies to leadership.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and person-centered planning discussions.
Preferred IDD-Focused Responsibilities
• Ensure coordination activities reflect a person-centered, rights-based approach that honors choice and self-determination.
• Track progress toward Personal Outcome Measures (CQL) for assigned individuals.
• Support community inclusion and HCBS Settings Rule compliance in service coordination.
• Reinforce positive behavior support approaches in coordinating care across settings.
• Maintain active partnership with families, guardians, and support coordinators as part of each person's team.
• Uphold dignity and confidentiality in all coordination and documentation activities.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree in human services or related field preferred.
• Minimum of one (1) year experience working with individuals with IDD or in a human-services setting.
• Must pass a statewide/criminal background check confirming no convictions for any crime of violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation, or any felony offense.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen; TB test if required by Alabama Medicaid Agency (AMA Policy #WAV37).
• Valid Alabama driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to complete required ADMH training within 90 days, including IPMS and person-centered plan training.
• Completion of the Employment and Community First (ECF) program.
Preferred Qualifications
• Associate or bachelor's degree in human services, social work, or related field.
• Experience with ADMH Community Waiver Program documentation and compliance requirements.
• Experience coordinating schedules or caseloads in a residential or day program setting.
• Familiarity with electronic documentation and data systems.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
• Knowledge of ADMH Community Waiver Program requirements and person-centered planning.
• Skill in organizing, tracking, and following up on multiple caseload items simultaneously.
• Skill in clear written and verbal communication with families, staff, and support coordinators.
• Ability to review documentation for compliance and accuracy.
• Ability to coordinate scheduling and staffing logistics.
• Ability to identify and escalate compliance or health/safety concerns appropriately.
• Proficiency with basic office software and data systems.
Physical & Essential Functions
• Primarily office-based with regular travel to program sites.
• Frequent sitting, standing, and computer use.
• Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
• Ability to travel within the service area for site visits and meetings.
Work Environment
