Job Summary: The Principal Electrical Engineer is an experienced level position where the incumbent must possess an advanced level of engineering knowledge and be fully competent in all conventional aspects of broad areas of technical assignment. This Prin. Electrical Engineer will serve as a specialist and Subject Matter Expert (SME) in three or more of the areas RF, power analysis, JTAG/ICT design and operation, high-speed digital and analog board designs. The person in this position will be responsible for supporting the teams at the Talladega site, providing technical input and leadership services in all phases of the design, manufacturing, and sustainment processes.
Responsibilities and Tasks: - Lead the design and development of complex products, equipment, or processes; perform advanced schematic capture, PCB layout oversight, and guide external layout providers.
- Develop and approve detailed specifications, schematics, assembly drawings, and bills of materials; prepare subsystem performance specifications.
- Evaluate engineering prototypes and translate experimental results into design criteria; ensure feasibility and competitiveness of designs.
- Conduct and lead experiments to evaluate operating characteristics of products or processes; execute troubleshooting and test activities for critical issues.
- Provide technical input and hands-on support during all phases of design, manufacturing, and sustainment, especially in analogue/digital design domains.
- Apply deep expertise in three or more of the following: CRTs & optics, HUDs, RF, Radar, Power supply design, firmware, test software, JTAG, ICT, ESS.
- Lead multiple engineering teams through development and sustainment programs; ensure architectural integrity and requirements flow down across sub-systems.
- Maintain responsibility for successful completion of systems and sub-systems (Schedule, Performance, Cost); track, manage, and report program health to leadership.
- Provide leadership and direction to others in selecting appropriate materials and processes for component applications.
- Serve as technical authority for critical technologies; chair design reviews and enforce compliance with internal/external standards.
- Own technical risk management for major programs: define risk registers, mitigation plans, and run technical reviews to maintain green status.
- Partner with Manufacturing, Test, Supply Chain, and Quality to embed DFM/DFT/DFS early and sustain through lifecycle.
- Support manufacturing in resolving design problems and ensure smooth ramp-up and sustainment.
- Represent engineering in customer and field interactions; troubleshoot application problems and translate insights into design improvements.
- Provide technical presentation support to Sales/Marketing; respond to customer engineering queries with authoritative guidance.
- Collaborate with Purchasing on vendor selection; prepare engineering specifications for major purchases and recommend cost-efficient solutions.
- Build and maintain technical relationships with key vendors to ensure compliance and performance
- Drive improvements in design processes, documentation, and test automation; institutionalize lessons learned.
- Translate technical decisions into business outcomes; prioritize initiatives to improve profitability and competitiveness.
Education, Experience/Knowledge & License/Certification: - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

- Demonstrated expertise in complex electrical systems, design, and problem-solving.
- Proven ability to lead or significantly contribute to technical projects and mentor junior engineers.
- Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification (often preferred, depending on industry and role).
Skills and Abilities: - Must possess intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices, with demonstrated ability to lead complex design efforts across multiple programs and technologies.
- Proven experience in analogue, digital, and RF design
- Strong background in current electronic manufacturing processes and methods, specifically including sustainment practices.
- Ability to function and communicate effectively in a dynamic, integrated product team environment, supporting multiple programs concurrently and influencing technical decisions across teams
- Demonstrated capability to lead technical trade studies, manage risk, and lead engineers, while maintaining hands-on involvement in design and troubleshooting
- Preference for candidates who consistently deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions and can translate technical decisions into measurable business outcomes.
Travel/Physical Requirements: - Approximately 15% travel time (~7 trips of up to 1 week each per year) will be required to support multiple sites and cross-site projects
- Some domestic travel will be required, possible international travel.
