PLANNING PRACTICE We create, integrate, visualize, and communicate planning concepts as they move from the initial vision through implementation. DESCRIPTIONThe Transportation Planner is responsible for assisting in the preparation of various transportation plans and studies, conducting research and data analysis, organizing public meetings, and coordinating with agencies and stakeholders. Key skills include a strong work ethic, organizational and communication abilities, and a work or educational background in planning, environmental science, or communications. We are looking for someone with strong analytical skills who enjoys working in a team environment, but who is also capable of working independently on analysis, research and writing or creative assignments. Your work will directly contribute to creating safer, more efficient, and sustainable transportation solutions in communities across Alaska.
This position will be focused on Alaska business and clients but will have opportunities to work on projects with our other offices throughout the US. The successful candidate may work in either our Fairbanks or Anchorage offices, or remotely from another location in Alaska. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES - Assist with the preparation of transportation planning documents and policy analysis
- Research and support grant applications for community and transportation needs
- Conduct research and prepare technical planning reports, including document design
- Assist with collecting and reviewing variety of quantitative and qualitative data and synthesizing it graphically and in writing
- Support the development of long-range planning studies, corridor and community plans, and planning and environmental linkages studies, including vision, strategy, and goals
- For long range planning efforts, support the review of conceptual project designs and their preliminary, schedule, conceptual cost, and scope. Develop and review project alternatives and recommendations based on community and stakeholder input
- Work with stakeholders, business and community leaders, and neighborhoods to advance planning studies working to achieve consensus
- Conduct formal agency coordination and public outreach, including planning for working group meetings and public meetings
- Establish and maintain client relationships
- Assist with proposal production, marketing initiatives, and identifying new work opportunities for growing our planning business in Alaska
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Bachelor's degree in planning or related field
- 0-3 years related experience in transportation and/or community planning
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with GIS use for database and map/figure production
- Familiarity with graphic design/document design using Adobe Creative Suite, or willingness to learn
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
- Interest in cross-training with environmental, transportation engineering as well as public outreach and communications
COMPENSATIONThe approximate compensation range for this position $70, 000.00 - $95, 000.00. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
