Description:

Alaska West Express, Inc. (Lynden Oilfield Services), Alaska’s largest intermodal tank and chassis operator, is looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Dispatcher to join our team in Prudhoe Bay, AK.

Lynden Oil Field Services, a division of Alaska West Express, Inc., provides support for exploration, production, and service companies on the North Slope working to develop Alaska’s oil and gas resources. Our team works a two weeks on / two weeks off shift. We offer low-cost benefits including medical, dental, vision and 401k, in addition to a defined contribution retirement plan. This position directs and coordinates service center activities in local area, including the pick-up and delivery and line haul, related paperwork, communications, safety and hazardous materials handling compliance, and customer service activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Attendance and timeliness are essential functions of this position.
  • Develops plans for efficient use of materials, equipment, and employees. Provides recommendations to management. Implements and enforces company policies. Enforces safety regulations and compliance with governmental regulations regarding proper handling and transporting of hazardous materials. Enforces compliance of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations. Determines work requirements and assigns personnel as needed.
  • Performs customer service activities, such as reporting to the customer the status of their freight shipments, charges and services performed, and obtaining proof of delivery. Greets and responds to customer requests.
  • Scans and images documents, such as bills of ladings or delivery receipts. Files, copies, or otherwise handles correspondence and documents or records as directed.
  • Records, traces, and enters information on company computer system as required. Makes inquiries from computer system. Operates other simple business machines. Maintains details of business transactions or other records as required. Counts, weighs, measures, and records number of units or other data regarding freight moved or handled. Makes calculations in totaling the accounts, determining discounts and computing extensions. Answers telephones and gives information to callers.
  • Supports and participates in HSSE programs. Encourages safe behaviors and assist drivers with HSSE & DOT related questions and concerns.
  • Coordinates freight operations through driver dispatch, equipment maintenance and yard operations.
  • Coordinates daily operations through customer communications. Determines work sequence by customer requirements, material shipping dates, type, volume and destination.
  • Prepares driver and equipment schedules to maintain compliance with shipment requirements, driver hours of service regulations and equipment maintenance scheduled to ensure efficiency of operations.
  • Adheres to the safety policy of AWE and complies with the standards set forth by OSHA, federal, state, and local laws. Monitors employee compliance with company policy on traffic laws and hours of service regulations.
  • Communicates with maintenance personnel to coordinate maintenance and repair services for equipment.
  • Directs workers in transportation or related services, such as pumping, moving, storing, and loading/unloading of material.
  • Tracks and evaluates information and statistics to measure operational performance.
  • May assist in special projects as needed.
  • Promotes safe & efficient operations within the terminal. Assures compliance with company policies, DOT, EPA, OSHA, and applicable federal, state and local requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position requires strong supervisory skills and responsibilities. There may be as many as 20 non-supervisory employees who report directly to this position. This position requires strong working relationship with all department supervisory personnel. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with co-workers, supervisors, and managers, to understand procedures and warning signs and or markings in the English language, to respond to inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as shipping regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

High skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to work independently, handle a variety of tasks at one time and work weekends. Extreme working knowledge of regulatory requirements. Computer skills include Word, Excel, Power Point and Access.

REQUIRED PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE):

Employee is required to wear PPE as outlined in AWE Industrial Health and Safety Manual Chapter 2.27 PPE Program, which may include hard hat, safety toe shoes/boots, gloves, chemical splash suits, safety glasses/goggles, hearing protection, respiratory protection, and arctic gear.
