Legal Counsel - Data / Europe

Context

Within the Digital Trust & Software Legal team, you will support the deployment of Schneider Electric's Data agenda and related compliance activities, including the Data Act, data governance, data sharing and access, international transfers, cloud and data sovereignty.

The role is primarily European in focus, with selected global matters.

Localization

This role is based in France, in Rueil-Malmaison or Grenoble preferably.

It is also opened in Spain, in Barcelona.

There is no relocation for this role.

Your role

Reporting to the General Counsel - Digital Trust & Software, you will own complex Data matters end to end, help shape Group-level standards and templates, and act as a trusted, business-facing legal advisor. You will work with Cybersecurity, AI and Software legal teams, the DPO Office, the Data organization, as well as Procurement, Engineering and Software / Digital teams.

Your missions

• Drive the practical legal deployment of applicable Data regulation, including the Data Act, Data Governance Act, cloud and switching rules, and sectoral Data requirements, translating them into clause books, playbooks, templates and business guidance.
• Determine and deploy the appropriate contractual instrument for each situation, depending on whether Schneider Electric acts as data holder, user or supplier, including for data use, access and portability.
• Monitor emerging and adjacent Data regulation and articulate how it interacts with GDPR, NIS2, the CRA and the AI Act.
• Advise on data localization, cloud and cross-border data access, and support consistent approaches to data sovereignty across jurisdictions.
• Advise on the legal framework for the use of industrial and operational data, including analytics and AI-enabled use cases, balancing commercial opportunity and regulatory constraints.
• Review and negotiate Data-related clauses across supplier, customer, partner and digital-offer agreements, and develop templates, clause libraries and playbooks supporting a data-by-design approach.
• Provide informed support on EU data privacy under GDPR, identify matters requiring escalation and coordinate privacy-sensitive questions with the DPO Office.
• Support and train the business and its lawyers in day-to-day operations, while building joined-up positions with Legal, Data, Cybersecurity, AI, Software and other cross-functional partners.

Your profile

• You hold a Master's degree in Law from a recognized university.
• You have 3-5 years of relevant legal experience, in-house or in a reputable law firm, in technology and Data law.
• You have demonstrable experience across data governance, data sharing and access, international transfers, cloud and data sovereignty, ideally within a technology, Software / SaaS or industrial environment.
• You can interpret and operationalize Data regulation into contracts, templates and business guidance; hands-on exposure to the EU Data Act or comparable Data regimes would be a strong asset.
• You have solid working knowledge of EU data privacy under GDPR; a certification such as CIPP/E would be a plus, but is not the focus of the role.
• Fluent English is required; French, Spanish or other European languages would be strong assets.

For this France based position, the expected pay range is EUR 63.200 - EUR 94.800 per year. This pay range includes base pay and short-term incentives (annual bonus) at target. The compensation range for this full-time position applies to candidates located in France. Our pay ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level. Individual's compensation is positioned within the range based on several factors such as knowledge, job-related skills, experience, potential and relevant education or training.
