For our MedTech sector, we are currently recruiting a Medical Advisor (M/F) - Surgery on a permanent contract to be based in the Parisian area.

Overall purpose

Medical Advisor is the BU’s scientific expert in France and contributes to the development and implementation of French medical strategy in alignment with BU priorities. Through evidence-based discussions and scientific peer-to-peer interactions with HCPs, HCOs, academic societies and patient associations, Medical Advisor is to be considered the trusted medical partner of external and internal stakeholders regarding the evidence-based medical value of their BU’s solutions for patients, HCPs and communities. Through activities in line with the Medical Affairs plan, the Medical Advisor is jointly responsible for the realization of short-term and long-term company goals.

Essential duties and responsibilities

External interactions

  • In alignment with BU and Medical leadership, implement BU medical strategy through local field tactics and ensure successful execution in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as J& J local primary resource for medical and scientific information to HCPs, HCOs and other external stakeholders regarding BU therapeutic areas. Provide HCPs with impartial scientific information and published evidence which accurately reflect risk/benefit balance and support the appropriate use of BU products and services.
  • Provide strong medical field support, via evidence-based peer-to-peer exchanges, for optimal launch and development of BU solutions.
  • Establish and nurture optimal peer-to-peer medical and scientific relationships with local/national HCPs and KOLs. Meet regularly with HCPs to assess their medical and scientific needs, and to identify ways to improve patient care and pathway.
  • Help develop strategic partnerships with scientific stakeholders (KOLs, HCOs, academic societies, faculties) and other stakeholders (patient/caregiver associations, local/national authorities, service providers…), based on cutting-edge scientific data and medical information.
  • Support conception and organization of advisory boards and expert meetings.
  • Support the identification and development of KOLs across BU therapeutic areas.
  • Support J& J-sponsored evidence generation projects in alignment with global/regional Scientific Affairs (Medical, Clinical, HEMA): provide local insights to improve selection of KOLs and sites for clinical trials, facilitate study’s HCP management, support local database studies and registries.
  • Support external evidence generation projects in collaboration with global/regional Scientific Affairs (Medical, Clinical, HEMA): support external investigators in their understanding of BU research priorities (research topics, clinical trials, database studies) and in J& J processes (e.g. investigator-initiated studies, publication grants, compliance requirements).
  • Support the development of local scientific and educational projects.

Internal collaborations

  • Support local teams with evidence-based advocacy, literature review and peer-to-peer exchanges supporting the value of BU solutions towards HCPs and HCOs.
  • Provide medical support to local market development activities, new product / new indication launches, and appropriate utilization of J& J products.
  • First-line medical support to local teams in the management of HCP/HCO issues.
  • Bring to J& J key insights from HCPs and external research environment: to bring best medical support to J& J solutions, to help optimize medical strategy, to enable J& J to identify and partner with KOLs and institutions at the cutting edge of BU therapeutic area, with the motivation and ability to assist J& J in achieving its clinical research goals.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure medical-based business strategies and evidence generation plans: global & EMEA Medical and Clinical affairs, Professional Education, Marketing, Health Economics & Market Access, Compliance, Regulatory, Legal, Finance, BU leadership, General Management.
  • Ensure thorough impartial medical review of promotional and non-promotional material related to BU solutions for internal and external diffusion.
  • Support Professional Education teams to implement higher-value educational partnerships.
  • Support General Management to impartially assess & manage charitable contribution requests.
  • Support EMEA Medical Safety & Quality teams to respond appropriately to unsolicited requests for information from HCPs and with safety investigations in France.
  • Develop and strengthen scientific level and evidence-based competencies of J& J associates.
  • Ensure that all activities and interactions comply with upmost ethical standards, scientific integrity, national and international laws and regulations, J& J guidelines and policies.

Medical and scientific knowledge development

  • Continuous update on latest scientific and clinical advances in BU therapeutic areas: scientific watch and analysis of published literature, attending scientific events, exchanges with KOLs, patient organizations and other BU stakeholders, analysis of competition landscape.
  • Attendance at courses and industry meetings to remain up to date with developments within BU area and MedTech industry.
  • Hence help identify evolving trends in healthcare innovation, therapeutic strategy, patient pathway, unmet needs and evidence in BU therapeutic areas.

Requirements (knowledge, education, skills)

  • Educational background: Medical Doctor, Bioengineer, Pharmacist or Nature Science University degree.
  • Experience in therapeutic area +3 years.
  • Experience in MedTech or Pharmaceutical Industry preferred.
  • Strong scientific and pedagogical skills in clinical evidence and scientific literature: analysis and interpretation of publications and scientific data, ability to translate/explain this information for HCPs and non-expert stakeholders.
  • Skills in hierarchy of evidence and/or medical writing.
  • Language levels: French native, English fluent. Excellent communication and influence skills, both in French and English.
  • Confident personality which can engage HCPs in a peer-to-peer format.
  • Strong HCP focus and solution oriented.
  • Project management skills, proactive and goal-oriented thinking.
  • Seeks innovation.
  • High level of ethical standards in business

Location and mobility: location in Paris region. Hybrid role which is split between presence on the field (+40%), our office in Issy-les-Moulineaux, and home-office.
