Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

The R& D manager is responsible for creating, designing and guiding R & D projects directed toward discovery and/or development of medical devices. Responsibilities encompass identifying unmet clinical needs, assessing fit to strategy, conceptualizing solutions, concept selection and development. This individual will work with cross functional teams and external partners to deliver timely results and provide excellent products and services in a regulated medical device product development environment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Under limited supervision and in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:

Collaborate with or lead cross functional project teams in a matrix environment to drive team accountability for deliverables and ensure projects meet milestones

Collaborates with in-house teams, cross J& J teams, and external partners to identify product development opportunities and to execute existing projects

Develops concepts, product designs and/or processes for medical devices.

Leads the technical development work to ensure the technology feasibility and robustness, scalability, and design for manufacturability through the whole product development cycle.

Coordinates and participates in preclinical evaluation of prototypes and optimization of products for development

Coordinates and participates in clinical evaluation for product development

Deliver transparent, timely and effective verbal and written communication to teams, stakeholders and appropriate levels of the organization.

Obtain resources from functional organizations, support groups & outside sources to ensure project success.

Foster teamwork, diversity, and inclusion within team, between teams & other groups.

Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level.

Performs other duties assigned as needed

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • A minimum of a Master's Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Biomaterials, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other relevant field is required

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in product development is required

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES and AFFILIATIONS*

  • Experience in managing Research and Development teams/cross-functional project teams

  • End-to-end R & D experiences (unmet need evaluation, design/formulation, characterization, process, etc.) of medical device related products is required

  • Experience working in a Regulated industry is required

  • Proven problem-solving skills using analytical technologies and process excellence tools is preferred

  • Excellent Chinese and English communication skills

  • Excellent collaboration and influencing skills

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver project outcomes in an ambiguous environment
