R& D Scientist - Process Development (Personal Care)

Processing design & scale-up across multiple brands & products platforms

This position reports into R& D Manager Process Development and is based in Thailand. You will be part of an Asia-wide R& D organization responsible for taking innovations from concept to launch, serving millions of consumers across multiple markets

What will you do

The R& D Principal Scientist Process Development is responsible for the design, development and scale-up of manufacturing processes across a range of personal care liquids. From Skin Creams to Lotions, from Shampoo's to Cleansers, you will have the opportunity to showcase your capability across a wide portfolio of well known brands including Aveeno®, Neutrogena®, OGX®, Clean & Clear®, Johnsons Baby®

Your primary responsibility is to bring this product innovation to life for our consumers - taking a formulation and determining the best way to assemble those ingredients into a product that consumers love. Delivering quality safe & efficacious products with exceptional consumer experience whilst ensuring a perfect fit to our manufacturing lines - and all at the right cost & efficiency.

You will need to be a strong "integrator" - combining requirements on product performance & quality, together with a strong Design for Manufacturing mindset. This will mean you working with Formulators, Analytical Teams, Quality, Supply Chain and factory teams, so you need to be a strong communicator and ensure our innovations deliver On-Time-in-Full.

We believe Process Development can bring competitive advantage to Kenvue, so we are also looking for an individual that is curious, inquisitive and constantly looking for opportunities where processing can unlock value for the business; this could be findings new was combine ingredients to deliver a different sensory experience, designing a different manufacturing process that improves efficiency or assembling ingredients in a more sustainable way.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for development of process designs for key global and regional brands such as Aveeno®, Neutrogena®, OGX®, Clean & Clear® & Johnsons Baby®

• Planning, executing and reporting factory trials - taking your process design and ensuring excellent fit to our manufacturing lines.

• Understanding impact of process on product performance (e.g. stability) and experience (e.g. sensory) and being able to adjust process design to meet quality criteria

• Root Cause Analysis to address problems that may occur at any stage of the development process, from lab scale, through pilot plant and to production scale.

• Design for Manufacturing - engaging early with formulation and supply chain teams to identify and highlight potential risks/concerns and ensure action plans in place to fully mitigate.

• Using Experimental Design methodology to map processing "windows", understanding the impact between process parameters and resulting product aesthetics - using data analysis to drive the right decisions.

• Good understanding of how processing impacts product characteristics (rheology, particle size etc)

• Understand how to scale-up from lab to pilot to factory - using methodology on mixing times, energy, residence time and fluid flow to develop relationship data-models and correlations.

• Working as part of a multi-functional team as well as being able to manage your own workplan and run experimental programmes independently.

• Building processing capability, upskilling junior teams members across the organization on design & scale-up principles

• Understanding the wider business impact of process designs and seeking opportunities to drive margin improvements, operational efficiency & sustainability gains

What we are looking for

Required Qualifications

• Passionate to learn and develop in formulation and processing sciences.

• A minimum of a Bachelor's or Master's degree, some industrial experience is preferred but not essential, Chemistry / Chemical Engineering degrees preferred

• Work experience gained through internships or university industrial programmes also welcomed.

• As the role requires working with teams across Asia, you will need to have strong English skills (or willing to develop in role)

• Able to travel overseas to lead and support factory trials.

• Experience within laboratory environment & using/operating lab or pilot plant based equipment preferred
